Sude Konak

There are pros & cons to this hotel. Pros are: location, it is very much in the centre and everything is within walking distance. Metro is very easily accessible and quick also. Breakfast is also nice and the outdoor seating is nice

Cons: If you are specifically looking for a 4* stay do not book this hotel, I’ve stayed in nicer 3 star hotels. The rooms are not clean, the carpet is filthy, I cleaned the shelves in the bathroom and the wipe was black, the room has a funky smell and a lot of the rooms don’t actually have windows. We had a look at 4 rooms in total, and there were no windows so no natural light coming through. The reception staff on the night was so unprofessional. We was booking our taxi for the airport and he wasn’t being honest about the prices. He increased our fare and when we asked to see the receipt the price was a lot lower on the receipt that he had booked with the agency. He had requested almost double from us to essentially keep that money to himself. We asked someone else about the airport taxi fare and he couldn’t give us a fixed price, he said to us what did the previous person quote you. All a bit dodgy to me, that was the most unprofessional service from reception staff by far.

Probably visually the worst hotel I’ve stayed at. Poor ventilation in the rooms and the shower door was broken. Obviously maintenance checks are lacking. There was also a used slipper under the bed, the floor was carpet and felt innapropiate to walk on bare footed and it was quite dusty.

A few of the staff were lovely however, when it came to booking a transfer from the hotel to the airport the staff became extremely unprofessional. In the morning the first staff didn’t give us a receipt for the transfer after we asked him multiple times for some type of confirmation. He took the money (in cash since they didn’t take card) and told us it was sorted. At the end of the day we doubled checked our transfer with another staff and he told us we booked it to the wrong airport and we had to pay more (even though our airport was closer). Whilst he was doing this he was being quite rude and unprofessional, kinda like he was haggling us which was unexpected since we are in a hotel! We asked him to show a receipt and the price shown on the receipt was difference from the price he was asking us to pay (double the amount). When we questioned him about this he just said the price on the receip was for something else and was not elaborating further. We ended up paying the price anyway since we needed a transfer as we were flying the next morning. Extremely disappointed with this experience.

The breakfast was alright and the location is extremely convenient. Just a walk away from the most popular sights such as Topkapi Palace and Hagia Sofia Mosque aswell as a tram stop. There are also a few other hotels near by and next door which might be worth considering before Sude Konak.

I stayed with them for 2 weeks and all I can say is it’s not deserving of a 4 Star rating as a hotel.

Pros:

* Clean Hotel.
* Strategic and Safe Location
* Samet was very kind.

Cons:

* Not soundproof. You will hear the other rooms and in the morning the cleaners can be noisy.
* Ventilation not good. I had to open my windows so that I can breath properly. Maybe because the rooms are really small. I can smell cigarette as well as the food in my room even if windows are closed.
* Same breakfast everyday.
* Some of the kitchen staffs made me feel uncomfortable as they would laugh sometimes when they see me during breakfast and they would talk in Turkish.
* They don’t have a bidet in their toilet. It was a complete disappointment. They also don’t provide toothpaste and disposable toothbrush.
* Reception staffs were not so helpful. They don’t provide extra effort on their service to provide comfort. They said late checkout was not possible as the hotel was full but if I will pay a certain amount then they will allow me. No consideration even if I stayed with them for 2 weeks.
* I have to call front desk all the time to do a room service as their room service staffs would always hang up whenever I call them. Maybe because I don’t speak Turkish. Completely rude!

The hotel is ok, more 3*, definitely not 4* by European standards. You can’t trust the stuff which is a huge problem. I asked a person in the lobby to order airport taxi. I was not able to pay for the taxi with credit card (I specifically asked to be able to do so) and I was charged a fixed rate which was much higher than a taximeter. Scammers!
