Barclay Hotel

It is filthy and has very unsafe steps, no elevator, dirty beds, old TVs, and no coffee machine in rooms, The Bathroom has just a few towels to use, ugly and old bathrooms, Etc....
Check other hotels for better deals. It is hard to get your refund in any case through the hotel front desk. There is a very noisy bar under the hotel.

I gave 1 star only because of the location, and the building is beautiful ( or at least was). The rest is mamma mia! Dirty, worn-out, unpleasant. The worst beds we EVER had in all our travels. Even my kids couldn't sleep. Mattresses are very bad for the back. I was happy to leave.
This hotel could be a wonderful place with the right management.
The cleaning ladies were nice ones I complained. We entered the room, and it was FOR SURE not cleaned after the previous guests. Piss all over the toilet, shaved hair in the sink, just disgusting!
The room has a door to the next room . Neighbor was smoking weed and was super loud. We could hear his mobile phone ring in the middle of the night like it was in our room.
It is a perfect location for visiting the downtown and the price is ok, but maaan, I would pay more and stay in a cleaner and quiter place.

We are giving a two star because of the room. The carpet in the room was so stinky that we had to go to the reception try and change room. Unfortunately the hotel was full.. So we were provided with a bottle of Febreze to spray on the carpet. The odor of the carpet was really strong, and one of us has allergies, so it was unbearable with a runny nose and sneezing constantly. The hotel itself is old but OK. Not so So clean. it’s old and we did find a couple of humidity bugs running in the washroom… the bed is ok. Ordinary doublebed not that great in comfort. And old linen. We sleeped on top of the sheets. This was in September 2023. The location is excellent. The staff is very nice. but this clearly needs some renovations And upgrade. The price is reasonable for Vancouver. But I will pay the extra next time to have a better quality.

Pros: great price, excellent location, friendly staff, great arcade bar at the bottom

Con: we stayed in room 123 that appear to have 0 sound proofing. Both my partner and I are deep sleepers but had a terrible sleep. You can hear every conversation in the Holloway and every door closing or opening. I would have easily paid an extra $80-$100/ per night to stay somewhere with actual sound proofing and feel
Rested in the morning. I will consider staying again in the upper floors (if the sound proofing it better) but will not recommend the 1st floor without good earplugs.
