Hotel Oberhausen Neue Mitte affiliated by Melia

I write this review with regret, as after three previous positive experiences, we were disappointed with our recent stay. We had always rated this hotel five stars and looked forward to each visit. Unfortunately, our last stay has left a bitter taste, and we are strongly convinced that it will be our final visit.

During our stay, we encountered a medical issue in the evening. We expected the hotel staff to be supportive or at least willing to think along with us and guide us toward a solution. However, to our great disappointment, nothing could have been further from the truth.

When we asked for help at the reception, our situation was completely dismissed by the staff member on duty. The man at the desk was not only uninterested but also downright curt and unfriendly. Instead of assisting us, he seemed to be idly sitting behind the computer. Even when we asked for something as simple as a paracetamol, I was told within a second that he had nothing for us. He didn’t even make an effort to check or inquire further about our situation. Whether the hotel has medication in stock or not, I still don’t know, as there wasn’t even the slightest intention to help us.

What made matters worse was that when we asked if there was a pharmacy or medical assistance nearby, we received no useful information either. The helplessness of the staff in a situation that could have had serious consequences was not only frustrating but also frightening. If, for instance, I had suffered a heart attack, I dread to think how disastrous the outcome could have been due to the hotel’s lack of support.

The lack of engagement and professional assistance from the staff is the reason we will not be returning. It is disappointing to see how a hotel that we had previously enjoyed so much could fall so short in a crucial moment.
