Will never return here in my whole life! The host was very unfriendly, when we asked questions he was not really happy to answer. But the second host (younger one) was really good and friendly.
Room was quite clean, but really old, in the shower the water was always leaking on the floor, tap was broken (but when we asked to repair, they repaired it but it was working for three hours and then got broken again)
It was noisy, NO IT WAS EXTREMELY NOISY. First night we couldn't sleep even for one hour, because there were plenty of cars and they were honking really loud. It was total disaster. We bought ear plugs, but they also didn't help to a full amount. We couldn't close the window fully and we felt like we were on the street. The door also doesn't help to reduce the noise in the hotel (service can be noisy at 5am and talk loudly)
Very scary building and elevator. I was really scared to go up the stairs, it is old
Smell of cigarettes is everywhere. I can't imagine how people live near the hall and host as he smokes very often, talks really loudly and watches TV
But there is a kitchen and microwave that you can use. Wifi was not so bad (as for Egypt)
All in all, you better pay a little more money, but stat in better hotel, because it was just terrible

Very nice hotel and clean in downtown

I have been traveling to Egypt every year since 2007 and for the past 9 years I have stayed at the Golden Hotel whenever I’m in Cairo. The rooms and bedding are comfortable and spotless. Breakfast includes fresh fruit, an omlette, yogurt and tea or coffee. Best of all, the owner and staff are welcoming and very accommodating.
The downtown location can’t be beat making it an easy walk to the Corniche, the Egyptian Museum, the American University in Cairo bookstore, Abdeen Palace and lots of restaurants and shops. A slightly longer walk of 20-30 minutes will get you to the Islamic Art Museum, Bab Zuweila, and the Street of the Tentmakers. It’s only a bit more than a 5 minute walk to the Sadat metro station at Tahrir Square to get you to most other destinations.
Modest prices make The Golden Hotel a great value - don’t hesitate to book a room.

I've had many experiences with hotels in Cairo. I never found one that good for that price value. The rooms are always nice, clean, cozy and comfortable. AC is included in all rooms. The place has a no-smoking-in-rooms rule, which makes the air inside the rooms always nice. The staff is really hospitable as well as helpful. It has a unique location suitable for the purpose of your visit since it's in the middle of the capital. If you are here for work, you can go anywhere easily. If you are in Egypt for tourism, they offer incredible tour packages. I'd surely recommend this place for a nice stay.

The hotel was in a good location but the room was full of mould. The breakfast was poor with very small portions, I believe we got a small yogurt, toast, a small egg, toast and a hot beverage. The reviews listed are extremely questionable. I don't believe this hotel is the best in Cairo' or even close to that. Our taxi driver seemed shocked at the price we paid.
