Reviews
Staff at the reception was the only main issue, lack of training and ability to clearly communicate.
Having been regular Citadines clients we were excited to have the opportunity to try the 5 star La Clef establishment. The stay began quite well, a rather nervous but polite receptionist checked us in early and showed us to our apartment. A very friendly attendant brought our luggage to our room promptly. We were initially impressed with the presentation of the apartment and were looking forward to our 6 night stay.
Then it all went downhill. One of the beds was broken and had obviously been repaired before but had not been checked to see if it was comfortable. After one night I reported this to reception along with the blown globe in the bedside lamp. We were reassured that all will be fixed. We returned at midday to find a fixed lamp but a bed that was still broken and a note advising us that it had been fixed. We returned to the receptionist who again reassured us that it would be repaired. Late that afternoon we returned to find the bed still not fixed. We returned to reception who then sent maintenance/housekeeping to the apartment. He confirmed that the bed was broken and left. We then waited for something to happen. At one point the phone rang but there was nobody on the other end. We became impatient waiting, so I tried phoning reception and realised the phone was not working. I then returned to reception to be told that they had been trying to contact us to tell us that we will have to move to another apartment. This meant having to repack all our luggage, empty the fridge etc, which we did promptly only to be then told the new room was not ready. We waited over an hour and finally were able to move to the new room (identical, 2 floors up). The new room had no bedside lamps, so once again we contacted reception. The lamps were replaced.
The following night we used the washing machine and halfway through we realised there was water coming from the back of the machine. Once again, we contacted reception, maintenance arrived, worked on the machine and advised that he would have to return the following day. Eventually the machine was fixed.
Throughout all of this we were never contacted by reception or management to check on us. It was only when I outlined what had happened in a review did we receive any contact from management. She sent an insincere apology and an offer of a credit on my ASR card which we have not received to this date despite receiving 2 rather blunt emails ensuring me it would be done and another ensuring me that it had been done. As mentioned, we have received nothing at this stage. (3 months since our stay)
We are regular travellers to Paris and each time we try different areas and different apartment hotels in search of the perfect one. As we are getting older, we are hoping to find one that we can use regularly to not have to move around. When we initially checked into La Clef Louvre we thought this might be the one, but our confidence was shattered, not so much by the problems we had but more so by the way it was handled. I must say that we have never had so many things go wrong when staying at other hotels, but it was the lack of care and concern that we received on this occasion that was truly disappointing. Not only does management seem uncaring, we also found staff poorly trained. As much as I would like to recommend this hotel. Based on our experience, I cannot.
We stayed there the last week of April when the temperature outside was in the upper 50s at night and upper 60s/lower 70s during the day. The heaters in the building seem to be these old school radiators that were cranked up like it was 30 degrees outside. When we asked the front desk why we can’t use the AC in our room even though we booked this hotel because it’s advertised with air conditioning, we were told the weather outside was too cold to have AC on so they were shut off. The result was that the heat from the day and radiators in the hall increased the temperature of the room to what felt like upper 70s to lower 80s when we came back to sleep at night. I get it. AC is bad for the environment. Why have the heater on full blast though?
For me it was nearly impossible to sleep. I had to put wet towels around my neck and woke up sweating multiple times during the night. I didn’t get good sleep the full week we spent in Paris, dramatically decreasing the quality of our vacation. We tried opening the windows, which did let in some cool air, but since it’s in a central location, the street below was noisy all night. We had to close the windows due to the constant noise of cars, beeping, and people yelling outside in the middle of the night.
I suggest either staying somewhere else or confirming with the hotel if the AC will be working during your stay.
