Reviews
The air-conditioning in the room only worked sporadically and when it did work it was only 40% effective so we sweltered in the room as it was not possible to have the windows open and sleep due to traffic noise. The hotel is located on a very noisy street with constant traffic and people noise.
The condition of the hotel is very poor for a 4 star hotel, I booked this hotel because of the Melia brand as I have always had a great experience with them, unfortunately, they have ruined their reputation with me and I will never trust the brand again without checking reviews.
The rooms are very basic more like hostel rooms. We expected much better for the money and the star rating.
The only good aspects of the hotel are its location next to the metro and the bed was comfortable.
I did complain and was promised an upgrade to a superior room as I have Melia Gold status but this never materialised. So very disappointing from a customer service point of view.
It was disgusting!!
1. Hotel Paris Opera does not have a secure main entrance or secure access elevator (lift). Anyone can walk into the hotel from the street and access any room floor.
2. There are no secondary chain locks, latch locks or swing locks on the room doors. The door handle lock easily opens when the door handle is pressed and basically, anyone with a key card can access your room. As someone who travels often and is hyper-vigilant about safety in foreign countries, this made it especially hard to sleep each night.
3. There are also no peepholes on the room doors.
4. There is no self service ice machine. You have to request ice from the from desk, which can take anywhere from 2 minutes to 20 minutes to arrive to your room. Not a huge deal, but still an amenity some guests are accustomed to having when traveling.
5. Hotel Paris Opera does not provide face towels or floor towels for the shower. Again not a huge deal, but still an amenity some guests are accustomed to having when traveling.
6. There are no irons or steamers in rooms (or not in my room, at least).
7. While the room itself was quaint & cozy, it had a horrible view! While I didn’t expect a balcony, I did expect the street view that I booked (not a dark alley, facing other rooms). More transparency should be given to the room descriptions on the website.
8. There were only 3-4 English speaking channels and they were all news channels (no movies, entertainment or sports). English is a common language, (if not the native language) for most tourist demographics traveling to Paris, so this was baffling. I'd recommend at least one English speaking entertainment or sports channel and one English speaking movie channel. Otherwise, the television as an amenity is completely useless at the Hotel Paris Opera.
9. The housekeepers let the room doors slam while cleaning the rooms in the mornings, which is very disruptive to guests trying to rest. This noise could easily be prevented by requiring them to just prop the doors open, so that the housekeepers can enter & exit the room without allowing the doors to slam and disturb sleeping guests.
On a more positive note, the location is great! It is very walkable (but again, the Grands Boulevard Metro is located in front of the hotel) and in the vicinity of lots of restaurants, grocery, shops, cafes, bars and late night food options. Also, I purchased the bed & breakfast package with my room, so it was very nice to have that available every morning. The food was pretty decent and had a good variety of unlimited eggs, potatoes, bacon, sausage, breads, pastries, meats, cheeses, fruit, yogurts, coffee and juice. Finally my bed seemed very comfortable (or maybe I was just tired at the end of each day) and the staff at the Hotel Paris Opera were very friendly!
I have rarely experienced such hospitality upon check in
Well done will be back
The room was relatively small and doesn’t have dressers to store your clothing. Ishara at the front desk was warm and welcoming. You can tell he loves what he does. Ishara always welcomed you with a smile and wanted to do anything to make your time even more enjoyable. He engaged in conversation and was actually interested in learning about you. He would be a big reason for me to stay here again. 10/10 for Ishara.
When I checked out they wrote off 8 euro for some M&Ms and a granola bar. I’m not sure if this was meant as a gesture about the laundry. They didn’t say. And didn’t apologise. Surprising all around given that I work at a large corporate client.
Don’t stay on a low floor in a front facing room during rugby World Cup! Most nights were fine. But Saturday night there were people outside the pub downstairs being quite loud until 6 am!
Otherwise; the room was decent. Clean. Good size. Comfortable.
Good location right next to the metro and within walking distance of many bars, restaurants etc.
