Hotel Concordia

We had reserved two rooms for one night. I was so excited to see Venice and the hotel. Unfortunately, the rail system had a 24 hour strike and there was no way to get to Venice. The rental car agencies had no cars available or were closed. We contacted Concordia as soon as we found out about the strike. Concordia had no sympathy for our situation and charged us full price for both rooms because we didn't cancel 48 hours in advance. I understand hotels have policies in place, however in this situation I feel there should be understanding from the hotel. I could understand if they charged a small cancelation fee but to charge $648 for something that was beyond our control is ridiculous.

I've researched many hotels for this Italy trip. Spent hours and hours trying to find the most convenient hotels for our 2 week trip but really spent extra time looking for a great Venice hotel because I am traveling with my 77 year old mom and her dream has been to go to Venezia. Found this greatly located hotel Concordia. Booked an incredible arrival transfer with their concierge. NICOLA who met us at the Venice Airport and was our driver could not have been more friendly and informative. That's pretty much where the hospitality ends for this property. Upon check in and after our first day at this hotel, not one staff member has asked us how our stay was... This morning my mom fell in the front entrance of the hotel. (Caution: there are lots of stairs and really no railing to help with climbing of stairs. ) my mom missed a step which was poorly marked with caution tape and fell hitting her knee and head. This could've really ended and ruined our trip 14 day Italy trip. I am thankful she is strong and we kept going. THE MANNER IN WHICH THIS HOTEL HANDLED THIS INCIDENT IS HORRIBLE!. She fell in the front lobby entrance where there happened to be a hotel porter who witnessed this and made a phone call, I later figured out it was a call to the front desk staff. He didn't say anything to us, didn't ask if mom was OK, didn't assist in getting her up... he just disappeared after making the call. Almost as if he was scared to be anywhere near the accident. All of a sudden a lady who worked at front desk shows up to see the incident and asked if mom needed anything, got her some ice and water. That's it! Then went back to her job as if nothing happened. There has been absolutely no follow up, no calls to check on her, no concierge or guest service manager to see how she is doing, absolutely nothing. We have come in and out today a few times and not one front desk staff has asked not only how my mom is doing but anything, there is no conversation. There is NO "how was your first day in Venice? how are you? How is your room?" NOTHING. Where is the "hospitality "?
We came back to hotel after our dinner to ask for our keys as well as a printout of our current charges since we are checking out tomorrow and whoever this older gentleman is at front desk has got to be the most unfriendly, zero personality person ever. Not even a smile.... AGAIN NOTHING! I have worked in the travel industry and I must say if you work for a "4star" hotel front desk, you need to be a bit more welcoming, friendly and interested in the guests that you encounter on a daily basis. That is what hospitality is all about. We check out tomorrow and just hope that this start of our Italy trip in Venice doesn't ruin the rest of our trip.... sorry Concordia but today has left a very bad impression of your property.

The hotel ground entrance is modern, but you have to climb stairs to get to the first floor, where the reception is located. The workers are friendly. When we got to our room, I noticed that it was not the room that we booked, so I went back to the reception, and the manager told us that he gave a better room with a view of St. Mark's Church (they try to trick us). With our cell phones, we compared the prices of the rooms, and we concluded that the room they gave us had a lower price than what we had booked, so we went back to the check-in and requested a price adjustment
The hotel is vintage; it smells bad, is old and dirty. Our room had flaying bugs and mold. Our room had a bathtub with a shower; when we opened the shower, the bathroom got all wet and we had to dry the toilet seats every time we took a shower. The last day, I had food poisoning from their breakfast….This is a 2-star hotel with a price of 4 stars.
