Editing review, upon reflection as the rating was too harsh and written initially in annoyance after I was frustrated by smokers. It's a very nice hotel with great pools. The staff are fabulous and the beach is beautiful. It's peaceful. The room was big and well-equipped and the shower toiletries have the most wonderful lemongrass aroma. Food in the Green Mango is tasty. BUT, please separate smokers from non-smokers so people can enjoy pool-access rooms with a smokeless environment and non-smoking neighbours.

We had the best time staying at the Grand Mercure in Khao Lak Bangsak. We traveled with our 7 year old daughter and her grandparents. We all stayed in the lovely Pool Access Rooms which were very spacious, beautiful and clean with large and comfortable luxurious bathrooms. All the staff was very friendly. Especially Joey at the Green Mango Restaurant was always greeting us warmly, ready for a friendly chat and professionally served our table, always going the extra mile. We loved the live music on Mondays. Very good musicians that created a magical atmosphere at dinner. The songs were right for everyone from the youngest to the oldest guests. I also enjoyed my yoga sessions and the highlight were the many daily swims in the private pool access pool as well as the large beach pool. We enjoyed the food throughout. I would certainly to recommend staying here.
I loved that the design of the hotel allows the local wildlife to blossom, we saw plenty of frogs, lizards, dragon flies, geckos etc which were lovely to see especially for my daughter. All the gardens were beautiful too.

Stayed here for 9 nights with family of 5 in two rooms. Excellent hotel and staff.
Breakfast was included and very good.
We had a half board package which included either lunch or dinner daily and that was very good, making it outstanding value.
The kids loved the main pool and the room side pool. They also enjoyed visiting the kids club.

A lovely hotel that offers such good value for money, especially in low season. Rooms are modern clean and spacious. Check in and resort orientation was excellent, made to feel very welcome. Location is lovely, remote and private but still with a nice selection of restaurants and local beach bars. Breakfast is excellent- I had just come from a resort in Thailand that was 6 times more expensive, but the breakfast was better here!
All the staff throughout the resort are super friendly and always offer a warm hello.
I didn’t rate the Green Mango restaurant at all unfortunately, I was given half roast chicken so dry that it almost choked me, had two bites then had to leave, but after complaining I was only offered 60 baht discount, so paid 450 baht for a few fries.
All in all a wonderful resort though and I would certainly return. It’s highly suited to first time Thailand visitors as offers enough authenticity without being too busy or overwhelming.

Resort, staff and location of this resort were all amazing. If your looking for a family friendly resort with everything, away from all the business of other locations this is the one! The beach at the back of the resort was truly amazing with many bars and restaurants along the beach and behind the resort with many friendly locals. The area surroundings are safe, with no distasteful nude bars or nightclubs. If your looking for a quite relaxing time spent in the pool or on the beach this is the place to book.

Check in was horrible. Paid for three rooms, had proof of this with reference numbers but the manager insisted for three hours that my booking was for two rooms. After three hours, he (Chris) finally figured out that it was in fact three rooms. No apology, no explanation and no compensation for the inconvenience.
I was lied to by Chris and told that I would be upgraded today to rooms closer to the beach for the inconvenience. This has not materialized. Management (New) called to say they will not be honoring their promise.
No walk about at check in or orientation regarding breakfast location or times or admin around pool towels etc.
Rooms are very far from the beach, actually they are the closest you can be to the reception. An unnecessary walk for four children.
This is not a child friendly resort.
Inadequate amount of pool and beach loungers.
Beach is lovely.
Food at restaurant green mango is great.
Breakfast options are limited. Room service is extremely slow. Expect atleast a one hour wait.
No air conditioning in any restaurants.
Housekeeping only comes when you call them.
My advice is book somewhere else. Food and beach will be lovely somewhere else as well.
Update: compensation has been received from a gentleman called Prince with complementary room upgrades and rooms which are beach and pool front. Rooms are now also in the same building on the same floor.

During our 10-night stay with my family at this 5-star hotel, we particularly enjoyed the luxurious rooms with private swimming pools and the exceptional friendliness of the staff. However, the dining options were limited in variety, a surprising aspect for a hotel of this stature were we would expect more restaurant options.
Although the two swimming pools were delightful, the availability of sun beds was insufficient. Additionally, the kids' club was notably small and lacked an outdoor area, which could be improved for a better family experience.
Despite these drawbacks, our overall experience was positive, but enhancing these aspects would align the hotel more closely with its 5-star rating.

We stayed 8 nights and loved it. Very cool unique layout, beach is amazing and the 2 pools were great. Lots to do around the resort, shuttle to markets, beach messages, several local restaurants all right next to the resort. Resort staff were great, good breakfast selection and dinner at the Green mango. Highly recommend!!

We stayed here for 5 nights at the start of our 14 night trip. The hotel is so nice that none of us want to move on to the next hotel. The pool near reception is perfect for a shady afternoon out of the sun. Even the pool near the beach is pretty quiet given this is Easter. We would definitely stay here again. Maybe for 7 nights out of a 2 week stay. Or possibly even the whole 2 weeks. Otto restaurant round the corner is worth a visit.
