Reviews
Room was okay.. Just the shower door quite narrow.. I think better to use curtains instead.. But overall good.. We stayed for 3 nights here and so many restaurants nearby..
This hostel, unfortunately, did not live up to expectations. While the space does resemble the pictures online, everything feels dark and dirty in reality. Most of what was advertised was not available—no stick for the pool table, broken Xbox controllers, no dart board, and no ball for the baby foot table. The overall ambiance is depressing, with poor lighting that gives it a vibe reminiscent of the Great Depression. Cleanliness is a major issue: I found a rotten apple under my bed, the smell in the building was off-putting, and the bathrooms were filthy, with a lingering stench, old toilet paper on the floor, and a broken shower head. Cobwebs are scattered throughout, and the walls are dirty with visible handprints and peeling paint.
The kitchen heats up quickly with no proper ventilation, and the floors are dirty—no one seems to clean them. The service was awful; the staff gave off the impression that guests were a bother, and they even charged $7 to use the laundry facilities. Wi-Fi was poor, only reliable in the common area on the first floor. The included breakfast was a joke: a single egg, two tomatoes, and four unappetizing olives, all wrapped in plastic.
On the positive side, they do wash the breakfast dishes, there’s plenty of hot water, and the location is convenient for exploring the city. The beds were clean and comfortable, and there are some board games available for guests.
The bathroom was dirty, mould in the shower mat and the shower didn’t drain. The smell in the bathroom stunk out the whole of the floor and the toilet didn’t flush.
The room was small but manageable. The “locker” had a broken door so was not able to be used.
About a 20 minute walk to main tourist sites- blue mosque etc.
Rooms:
Rooms could get a little dirty at the end of the day, but always got a cleaning every day. Not all beds got sheets. Beds are comfortable and you get your own locker, but it can’t fit a hard luggage case or anything like that. Bring your own lock or buy one at the hostel. I kept my luggage under the bed. Quiet, but bring earplugs.
There’s also a 200 lira deposit that I needed to pay that I wasn’t aware of when I first checked in - please keep this in mind!
Toilets:
2 toilets were shared across each level, with a sink, shower, and toilet. You might have to wait a little during peak times (morning, evening) or check out other floors. Toilets had the basics, but water pressure isn’t the best. Toilets aren’t always cleaned as well, I recommend you bring some slippers. Bring your own towel, soap and shampoo.
Breakfast:
Free breakfast included, same stuff everyday (an egg, bread, jam and butter, some cherry tomatoes and cheese) each person gets one plate each.
Facilities:
They had a workspace on the reception floor, relatively quiet, and a kitchen/balcony to hang out and chat on the fourth floor. The stairs are quite narrow and dark, you’ll need your phone flashlight and you may have difficulty bringing large luggage up the stairs.
Location:
Near quite a few things - Sultanahmet was easy to get to, and lots of small convenience stores nearby if you want to eat. Lots of food options as well, but a little expensive given it’s in a touristy area. There’s a 12 minute hike up an elevated hill to get to the nearest tram station - you’ll use this a lot so keep that in mind, because it can get a bit tiring. Please also ask the staff for directions if you want to walk to the stations, because Google Maps isn’t accurate and will lead you to dead ends, just a heads up.
It’s relatively safe and I (solo Asian female) did feel a bit scared during the first night I walked home, but was fine the subsequent nights.
It’s $10 a night, don’t expect too much. Not sure why people are so picky - you’re staying in a $10 a night hotel in the middle of the tourist area. You can’t expect a 5* hotel level of service and bedding or cleaning.
You get a decent bed and breakfast. Keep in mind that since it’s so cheap, you may get people that are inconsiderate and turn on the light at 3am and start talking and waking everyone up, or people that drink till late and puke in the hallway. However, this isn’t the hostel’s fault.
If you want something cheap and decent, with great value and very nice and helpful staff, this is it.
