Hotel La Jolla, Curio Collection by Hilton

Hotel was definitely lower quality than expected for the price. There were 2 elevators. One was not working at all. The other was only working some of the time. The hotel was obviously older and some things had been redone or covered up but other things like the carpet and lights were clearly not updated. When you look at photos of the hotel, it appears that it is inside but access to rooms is actually via outside doors. Rooms were good size, good views, bed were clean and comfortable and lobby was nice.

The property was well located for my stay in la jolla but i was very disappointed with the service, room cleaning, and staff attitude. Certainly not what you expect from a Hilton property and the price you pay.

The hotel is clean and the restaurant and restaurant staff are amazing. The pool max depth is 3 feet. The front desk clerks weren't the most helpful. The parking lot gate was sometimes up and sometimes down, and when down, I had difficulty getting out a couple of times. Ice machines are on 3rd, 6th, 9th floors. La Jolla is a cool place to visit to swim with sea lions or leopard sharks and many other adventures.

I wouldn't stay here again. The front desk was a snob. He looked me up and down and acted like I bothered him when I checked in. He immediately changed his demeanor once he opened my reservation and said "oh you're a diamond member." The room was okay, but there is a carpet under the bed and tile that doesn't have a separator. I stepped on carpet staples a couple of times. The parking lot was another issue. We ordered car service, and our driver was stuck trying to get us out because the parking arm lift was not working, and we were trapped. We were late for our event.

This hotel is currently undergoing renovations and that is a good thing, but it definitely needs some updating...it is a 2 star hotel with a 4 star hotel's skin. Let me explain, to get to our room, we had to take 1 of only 2 elevators available, and it is obviously a slow and old elevator. Then you go outside to get to your room, like those motels. That wouldn't have bothered me IF the interior of our room didn't also look like it used to be a motel room. The bathroom door, which hangs like those trendy barn doors that slide over, was crooked and wouldn't close or lock properly. The bathroom sink "cabinet" area or where the drawers would normally be, was exposed and you can see all the piping. No, they are not going for the industrial vibe....they tried to cover this with 1 piece of pink painted wood and the piping area was not at all "designed" to be attractive/cool. The toilet wouldn't flush properly either, so that was noisy and ran all night and there was visible cabling alongside the dresser/TV area to the balcony. It was very strange. It looked like....they tried to do a budget remodeling job. There was spoiled food left in the fridge...do yourself a favor and stay somewhere else.
