First time to book and will definitely return. Room was nice. Conveniently located near the beach. Gorgeous sunset just a short walk. Manager was super nice and very accommodating.

Built in 1892, as it the first hotel ever built in San Diego... joking, joking. But this motel really is dated, old, and mostly gross.
It's like camping inside. In other words, you feel like you're outside as all windows/doors must be open because there is no A/C. Because of that, you never really do feel safe or comfortable. I'd recommend really not touching anything. There is a fridge, which is great. I loaded it with beer so that I could drink away the sadness from staying here.
Pluses are location, location, location. La Jolla really is beautiful so the irony of this dump is that it is surrounded by million dollar homes everywhere. The people in this neighborhood really are nice. Take a walk down by the water, really is impressive. Free ice, Free parking. Close to everything, feel like a local for the day.
*Note- Although the water is close, PB or any beach for that matter is NOT a walk away for most people like some have suggested. It's over a mile away, and parking is either a struggle to find or you will pay $5/hour.

Ok, keep in mind this is a budget motel and you are not to expect high end and the price reflects that. It is great for a place to sleep, not spend a week 24/7 on-site. Other rooms in La Jolla are more than double the price. I see several posts about bed bugs. I found out that all mattresses were replaced with new ones last week and rooms cleaned. No, there is not A/C, but you are in La Jolla!! The manager told me that they are starting major renovations which will include completely gutting each room and adding air conditioning. They feel it is more important to work on the rooms and will remodel the exterior after the interior is completed. One guy complained about the pet charge, but their website and lobby postings are clear that no pets are allowed. I would stay here again.

Stayed in room 314. The area was decent. Nice and quite. I'll be honest, the building looks a little run down. The room itself is well presented. Only downside is there is no A.C. they do provide you with a fan which well keep you comfortable.

Our experience would have been fine, except the fact that people were smoking weed on either side of us the whole night, making it unbearably hot, as we had to close the balcony door to keep the weed out (no AC, as you've read). When I spoke with the manager and told them we physically saw the people smoking (in a NON SMOKING hotel), I was told that the manager would give me a call so we could discuss a refund. Needless to say, I never got a call back from Roger, the manager, and have called four times to get in contact with him, left three voice messages, and still no response. Stephanie, one of the front desk girls, even informed me that he HAD to call back before the end of the month... well, needless to say, he never did. I have never seen worse customer service in my life. The only reason this hotel is still in business is because they are relatively cheap on big weekends in San Diego. Save yourself the trouble and the bed bugs and stay somewhere else. Gross and poor service. Will be reporting them to the BBB.
