Hotel Condal Mar Affiliated by Meliá

The hotel are very stingy… We had spent the evening having drinks in the hotel bar before going out for dinner. Whilst we were out we bought a couple of bottles of water with the hope of refilling them at the bar before going up to the hotel room, because the water from the bathroom tap in the hotel room was unpleasant to drink. When we came back to the hotel we asked whether we could get some water from the tap and we were told no, we had to buy water, despite having spent a large amount of money at the bar a couple of hours before (in addition to the large amount of money per night to stay in a four star hotel).

The reception area is nicely decorated and contemporary but the room itself feels quite dated. Both the shower and toilet have clear glass doors on so there is zero privacy and the layout of the room means the toilet and shower can be seen from most of the room (there is no bathroom door too). Luckily I was staying with my husband but I can’t imagine how awkward it would be if you were staying with a friend. Who wants to be watched whilst they’re on the toilet? Such a bizarre design.

There is also a bath next to the bed which woke us up making a very loud noise that continued for 30 minutes or so. Presumably someone in another room had used the bath and the plumbing is poorly designed with an air lock.

We enjoyed the breakfast and the food was fresh but we didn’t have this every morning as it is quite expensive (€20 each).

Me and my daughter (17) were here for 6 nights.

Dangerous area, 1 day we stayed here, my daughter was the victim of a robbery, time 18-18.30. It happened 5 minutes' walk from the hotel we were staying at, it happened at the crossroads Hotel Vincii Bit C/ de Josep Pla, 69, Sant Martí, 08019 Barcelona, ​​Spain. The crime was reported to the Spanish police

On the 3rd day we witnessed a car break-in when we were inside a pharmacy in broad daylight, it also happened in the street C/ de Josep Pla, 25, Sant Martí, 08019 Barcelona, ​​Spain, 13 minutes walk from the hotel to the beach. The pharmacy name is "Farmacia"
The employee at the pharmacy called the police and we provided contact information as witnesses. We were not contacted by the police.

On the 4th we witnessed another car break-in, this time right outside the main entrance to the hotel, C/de Agricultura and C/de Cristobal de Moura. this happened at night. We filmed parts of the break-in and went down to the lobby and alerted the night watchman, who were told that there was no point in calling the police. I don't know if the owner of the car stayed at our hotel or was notified.

My daughter had enough, and booked a new flight straight home after 4 days. The holiday was completely ruined and it was traumatizing.

I know the hotel cannot be judged for the area it is located in but I would not recommend parking in the street under any circumstances, I would also be careful walking alone in the streets at any time and especially if you are a girl.

I felt we were taken seriously by the hotel staff after my daughter was the victim of the robbery, and I and my family really appreciate that.

I am colored by the crimes we were exposed to and witnessed, but there were some technical challenges with the hotel that I would also like to mention.

1. The lifts didn't always work, experienced that sometimes they didn't come, sometimes they worked, other days they partially opened and once we got stuck in the lift for a short period which we found uncomfortable. When we went home we took the stairs down to avoid missing the plane.

2. The cards for the doors stopped working, it happened twice with 4 cards over 6 days. The staff were quick to give us new ones.

3. I don't know if this is a special case of our stay, but one day both phone chargers stopped working, we thought there was a fault with the room and the staff were quick to examine the room and confirmed that the power was on.
We discovered that both chargers had stopped working on the same day and time. We were allowed to borrow a private charger in the lobby from an employee.
The next day I bought two new phone chargers and they worked straight away. We felt this point was one of the most unpleasant experience as we did not know why this happened.
