Hotel La Villa Nice Promenade

A nice and clean hotel in a good location. It is realistically a hotel for three stars, not four, so the price should be low. Rooms on the ground floor should be avoided because there is not enough privacy in them. Small garden is very sweet. The best part of this hotel is the staff who are very friendly.

The location is ok. It’s around a 10 minute walk from the nearby metro station. It’s a very short walk to the promenade Anglais. It’s advertised as sea view and maybe some rooms are but for me I had to stick my head out the window and turn it to see a flicker of sea.
It is around a 20 minutes walk to the more central area of Nice like the old town. There is not much going on apart from the promenade in this area. The restaurants along the prom are not great.
It does have a little grocery shop opposite the hotel which was handy. And it meant there was not much traffic noise from the streets outside.

The rooms however are a different story.
My room was very clean and nicely decorated. The bed was perfectly comfortable. However it was extremely loud during my stay. It sounded as though there were a construction site on the floor above mine. Relentless banging and voices. Even late into the night. I didn’t get to sleep until early hours of the morning all the nights I stayed.
On the last night I did cover up and try to go down to reception to see if they could request the upstairs guests to be quieter but couldn’t see any staff. I felt nervous to telephone as my French is not good. I am not one to complain to staff but it was incredibly frustrating. Surely the staff could hear it.

The bathroom was nice: modern and clean albeit a bit snug and the towels quite small. The water was hot enough but my shower drain had issues and did flood a couple of times.

The room had a tv and tea/coffee making station which is a pleasant surprise in European hotels.

The staff were ok, not particularly friendly but civil nonetheless.

The wi-fi was a little hit and miss.

Unfortunately I would not stay here again, because of the noise levels.
