Reviews
Stayed there for 3 nights. First, about some of advantages. Wi-Fi was flawless, didn’t expect such. The location is successful, all main sights are in 10-15 mins walking distance. AC was in our room so it saved us from Italian July heat. Well, I think, that’s all.
A major thing that irritated me within the whole living period is conditions in the room. It looked dilapidated and old, with ugly corners and a few decrepit pieces of furniture. But it’s possible to survive, the problem was something else. First, the toilet door couldn’t be locked AT ALL, despite thousand attempts. When our patience ended, we asked a receptionist to mend the door. He promised to come, but afterwards it didn’t happen and we’ve been living with a non-locking door. Besides, once in the toilet a bidet started spilling. Second, though there were four of us, as I’ve mentioned before, there were just a few pieces of furniture (not including beds): a wardrobe, two cupboards and one chair. Almost no place to put clothes and other items for four people. Finally, we didn’t find a safe for valuable things, but, I figure, it’s not of a big demand among hotel residents.
In the end, speaking of hotel breakfasts. The range of food was narrow, including 2 kinds of ham, cheese and some bakery. The coffee machine often did not work, so we had to boil water for tea in a microwave. And the microwave itself could be tuned only up to 30 seconds for some reason.
Probably, it was our fault to come to a 2-star hotel, having excessive expectations. Nevertheless, it leaves much to be desired and should be necessarily revamped, especially rooms.
Toilet door did not close. I'd say one big plus - it's very central.
My room was tiny but clean. The bathroom was also fine for the place of 2 stars.
I checked the room for bed bugs when I arrived (due to a previous review) and did not find much evidence, but during my last night, I found a bed bug walking on my bag and later another on the wall. I contacted the reception and they booked me into another hotel and promised to reimburse my taxi ride, which they still have not done - a month has passed now.
The location of the hotel is very nice and the surrounding area seemed safe. It was a short walking distance from the center/old town area.
The breakfast staff was always very welcoming and helpful and the food itself good.
It is unfortunate that there are bed bugs and that my taxi ride was not reimbursed.
Positives:
* We were given a LARGE room. It was wonderful to have the space!
* The air conditioner worked great.
* The hotel is an enjoyable 25 minute walk from the train station, but if you use the #6 bus you will be dropped off just 30 seconds from the front door. Only 10-15 minutes to the main museums by foot.
* The internet worked great.
Minuses:
* No refrigerator. This was absolutely our #1 biggest minus. It made a big difference. And honestly it would be so easy to put one in the room. To be able to have a cold drink of water waiting at the end of a hot day of tourism (walking) would have been so great. [to management - please fix this, it is an easy fix!]
* Bathroom. So many issues (see photos). The paint was peeling in large areas of the ceiling, it was dark (1 40watt bulb?), the tilework was broken on the floor, the shower drain cover isn't secured and is directly under your feet while showing (becoming a big annoyance each time).
* Our "Queen Bed" was 2 twin beds pushed together. So we had a seam right down the middle. They were comfortable, but still not a Queen mattress.
* Door lock. We reported the door lock as broken on day 1. The owner worked on it and we mutually found a way to finagle the door to lock. That would have been ok but we came back the next day and discovered our room unlocked (housekeeping wasn't informed apparently and left the door unlocked). So we told the owner, he said he would inform housekeeping. The next day we returned in the evening and again, the door we left locked in the morning was now unlocked. Housekeeping didn't lock it and anyone could have gone through our possessions. Not acceptable.
* More informational, but we discovered that "2nd story" in Italy is the same as "3rd story" in the USA. It is a big climb to the room. But, being positive, the owner very politely carried our luggage on the stairs for us. That was a kind, appreciated act.
