Mercure Palermo Centro

Im not usually one to leave reviews on hotels, but in this case I’ll make an exception to help out the next family.
Although the photos on the website are of the hotel rooms, they don’t accurately reflect the state of disrepair of the suites. Water damage, rust, mould and lime scale are evident throughout the room and corridors and are accompanied by the associated smell. The lights flickered and not all of the ammenities functioned.
Parking in Palermo is famously difficult to find and our primary motivation for booking this hotel was to use the advertised parking. Disappointingly, we were told that it (the 25 euro per night, off site parking) wouldn’t open until 5pm so would need to locate our own space in the meantime. Additionally, should we elect to use the hotel parking, we would need to give at least 1 hours notice to have our car returned to us.
The hotel is aware that the room key cards do not work, and after being sent to test their key system on 4 occasions, we were give a security key that we were required to return to the front desk whenever leaving the hotel.
Disappointed as we were, the staff made matters much worse with their defensive and unhelpful attitude.
We observed many attractive alternative hotels nearby and would recommend looking elsewhere.
This experience caused us to cancel our future Mercure reservations.

It was evident that hotel was completely aware of its problems and this was not simply an unfortunate incident.

I recently stayed at Mercure and was thoroughly disappointed with my experience. The cleanliness of the room was subpar, with dust and stains present even after housekeeping. Breakfast was very limited with bad taste .To make matters worse, my used coffee mugs were never cleared, and I had to repeatedly request towels and toilet rolls, which should be standard in any hotel. Overall, I cannot recommend this hotel to anyone.

I stayed with a tour group. As a solo, I got a single room which was fine… except the room smelled awful. I think they must allow smoking in the rooms. Or did once upon a time. The two tiny lifts are pretty useless when everyone needs to leave at the same time. The dinner and breakfast was decent but not amazing. The line for the coffee was long but they hand make it for you so it was worth the wait.
