B&B HOTEL Berlin-Mitte in Berlin

I'm always surprise with the stars of some hotels. I don't think I was ever in a smaller room. It was clean, but I could barely open my bag. The soaps were also not very good and you could hear everything from the next room, even people speaking normally. Breakfast was ok, big selection. Service was also nice.

Terrible experience - the hotel is closed but they are still taking reservations. I booked over a month ago, this weekend is the Berlin Marathon and they are conveniently located close to the event. I didn’t receive any communication from them, until I got to the location to find a sign in German saying “sorry we are closed” on the front door. I had help from a local who translated and found out my reservation was available at another Best Western location. They blame Expedia but Google says the hotel is open too and is taking reservations… whoever is updating their ability is doing a very incompetent job.

If you a single person who needs a bed for the night, then you are probably OK here. Otherwise, there isn't much to recommend it. Stopping by the hotel to find out about parking is a bad idea. The Ukrainian Embassy next door will blast you with their megaphone immediately. Parking is in a public car park a few hundred metres away and the system is unnecessarily complicated - just adding the cost to the bill is impossible. Had to pay cash in advance as a "deposit." The reception staff might have nearly mastered efficiency, but friendliness is not yet up to scratch. The rooms are small and what isn't totally apparent from their website is that the bathroom isn't really separate. The wash basin is in the room and the shower is separated by a glass sheet. The whole room can get quite steamy if you take a hot shower. The toilet is a separate cubicle however.

In short, there is a reason why it's often a bit cheaper than other hotels in that part of Berlin!
