Really enjoyed our stay with the Marien. The staff is very helpful and friendly. The buffet had many great choices which changed daily.
The room was kept clean daily.
The beach is fabulous with plenty of lounges and day-beds for VIP.
The beach bar was very handy too.
Beware the locals on the beach who constantly try to take you too their market. They are friendly and will back off, but there are many. They all have shirts with numbers....
The city tour was a lot of fun 😁
All in all, a great holiday and will likely return.

I stayed 1 months in all-inclusive Hotel Marien from Puerto Plata and I find it as underrated by previous tourists even the average was 3.9 by 4 stars. Fast check-in, very clean room end environement, hot water at all time, air conditionig working perfectly, vera really large and clean pool and nice beach, three bars well supplyed, good food at the buffet and a la cart restaurant served by friendly and helpful waiters, professional dansers and good enertainment team. Tourists can chose nice excursions around with buses with air conditionning guided by experimented tour guide. I rate the hotel at 4.5 stars just because the food offerts are not that abbondante and the rooms, even very clean, needs some renovations. And the internet, even covering including the beach, is not the best. I reccomend this hotel.

We stayed here for 7 days for our honeymoon. The location is amazing - being only 20 minutes from the airport. The location was beautiful. We received amazing service, especially from Roberto, the drinks were nice and strong. The shows every night were also great. Our housekeeper Grisselda was also fabulous. Our room was impeccable every afternoon when we returned. The food is nothing fancy, but as long as you go early, there are lots of options. We booked spa couple massages twice (at the start and the end of our trip), and the entire spa staff was incredible. This will be a must return location for us.

Location. Is good - you can see mountain on one side and warm sea water. You will see some seaweed. We enjoyed swimming in sea.
Food - terrible options .Not many choices and repeat menus. Website lists multiple restaurants. But they are not open everyday. Only one or two will be open on a given day.
Drinks - not good either. Even alcoholic cocktails do not have much alcohol in it and looks just colorful drink.
Service - no room service for coffee or meal. No cafe for good coffee ro snacks. No staff going around and serving drinks on the beach or on the pool.
A single snack bar has limited menu and no chicken burger or sandwich.
Room - broken drawers, toilets flush didn't work sometimes
No wifi service inside room or balconies. Repeated complaint got me no resolution for wifi in balcony.
Waste of money at this resort.

Spent the week here! The staff were all kind and helpful. The rooms were clean and had the basic necessities. The food is very very slim, I lived off of potato’s, rice and fruit for the week. Even at the restaurants it was nothing fancy, but also remember we’re in the Caribbean! The pool was nice but the beach was very disappointing. There was garbage and seaweed everywhere. Overall it was not a bad stay but you get what you pay for. If you want better food and a nicer beach I would recommend looking at a 5 star.

Overall it was great, but at some point the AC in my room did break. Asides from the the service from everyone was impeccable our roomkeeper Maritza was phenomenal and very attentive to us!! Gracias Maritza! Do not buy your souvenirs at the hotel i bought 6 bracelets that totaled to 2500 DOP which is equivalent to around 40 bucks. not worth it go into the city for souvenirs

I am currently staying at this hotel, and it is NOT a five-star property. Very far from it. Very limited amenities, lack of attention to the overall state of the property. I would not recommend this property to anyone ever. I work in the hospitality industry, so I am very familiar with operations and the behind the scenes that goes into running the business. They really need to revaluate practices and marketing. I was definitely mislead by the way this hotel portrayed.
The buffet is horrendous. From the food presentation, the taste, quality, lack of variety and the chefs that were working behind the grill/stations looked very dirty, and disheveled. Brazilian restaurant, the food was bland, staff were not attentive at all. The only reason I gave this a two star for service was because of the team working at the Mediterranean restaurant, they were all great, making up for the fact that half of the menu was not available. The snack bar is joke. The cups used throughout the resort were cheap disposable cups. Whereas other five star properties I’ve stayed at use hard plexi cups. It’s the little things like that really cheapen this place and just dampens the entire experience.
Rooms are outdated. First I was given the wrong room and only because I insisted did they “investigate” what happened and was eventually given the suite I booked the next day. There are no real perks to VIP, it’s a scam.
Don’t even think about having decent wifi, it’s mediocre at best and doesn’t work 98% of the time.
I really wish I could say this was a much better experience, sadly it’s just become an extremely regrettable one.if you’re thinking about booking, DON’T.

Place has a very amazing view between beach and mountains, mattresses are a little to hard, all the employees were very nice and helpful, pool is big and well maintained, my boyfriend only had an issue with a cleaning lady that she wouldn’t let him go in the bathroom without a towel just because he was wet. Best days to go are on weekdays, once Friday arrives is like a circus. But our overall experience was good.

This was our 2nd visit to this location. Our last visit was over 12 years ago. The good: Rooms have really cold AC. The pool is very well maintained and is comfortable. The staff is very helpful and courteous. The bad: The rooms are extremely dated and in need of refurbishment. There were mold patches clearly visible in the bathrooms. The food choices were severely limited and sparse. Even basics like bacon for breakfast or even fried chicken at any point during the day were nowhere to be found. One night they moved the dinner to the Mexican "restaurant" where you can order off of a menu. When we tried to order they stated they were out of tacos. What kind of purported Mexican restaurant runs out of Tacos?! We were so mad we walked out and ended up leaving the resort to get dinner outside in Puerto Plata. Overall, this hotel needs to address the room issues and their food issues. Other than those issues our group had an enjoyable time.

The resort is a pretty quick ride from the airport which was nice. The staff and service we received was excellent and very friendly. The nightly shows are well produced and were a lot of fun to go watch. The pool is also very clean. The food was great and with the buffet and 3 restaurant options, we were able to get a good variety of well prepared meals. The beds are a little hard and the rooms can appear a little disrepaired (e.g., toilet paper holder I’ll-mounted to the wall) but seeing as your spending most of the time outdoors, it wasn’t bothersome. Would 100% recommend and consider re-visiting.
