Villa Otero by Happyculture

The photos online make this hotel look like it’s a such a cute hotel but when you get there you will quickly learn that it is not the place that you’ve seen online. I have pictures of my room, pictures of my view from the second floor.

On my last night there the safe battery ran low and would not open and I had to wait for the manager to show up at 7 AM to open it. My flight was at 7 AM. The staff was very nonchalant like there’s nothing we can do. You have to wait. The night staff did not even want to call the manager to let him know it was 12:30 AM when I came in I understand but for me it was urgent. And for them it was- oh well it’s not my problem attitude that really offended me and the same in the morning when the manager finally arrived and acted as if it was my code, the same code that I had used for the past three days, as I came and left, opening the safe and closing it each time to put my passport and money back in or take it out. Last we realize that the battery was low, and he put the key in it, reset it to open. At No time was I compensated for this, I lost out $400 for the miss flight and ended up having to spend almost $700 to book the same flight for later that day. At one point, I broke down crying at the front desk when I came down to ask why the manager hadn’t called me when he came in and he said oh because you’re supposed to come and check in with me it was that kind of care for Customer that hurt my feelings so much. I was alone with my daughter and feeling very stuck in a bad situation that was not my fault . He then walked away to get the key without even saying anything to me and left me there in tears.

This place was like this from beginning to end. The sink was not working properly so they sent someone to fix it. The coffee machine broke down when I tried to use it and it overflowed the water onto the tray on the table, they sent someone to clean it up and fix. The walls are bubbled all over, the view from 208 is of apartments and there was dog poo outside the entrance that was never cleaned. And finally the safe situation in the end. At check out the manager offered me a free breakfast. I passed it up and left as quickly as I could to get to the airport to try to catch another plane.

As for the neighborhood unfortunately it is not a nice one. It is rundown. You see the pictures of the hotel you think you’re in a nice area. The good thing is the convenience of how close you are to the beach you can walk there in 7 or 8 minutes, once you get there it’s much better. This was not a good experience for us. Very unfortunate and costly.

Unfortunately me and my partner had an unpleasant stay here at this hotel. According to us, this hotel does not hold the standard of 4 stars. The room was super tiny. We stayed there for 4 days and the cleaning lady didn’t change the sheets even once. We had brought some paper cups up to our room and had a pile of empty ones that the cleaning lady didn’t bother to throw. After a long day of adventures, you want to come back to a clean, fresh and tidy hotel room and unfortunately we didn’t get that feeling during our stay.
When it comes to hospitality, the welcoming was terrible. Our check in was at 15:00 and we were there on time. Once we arrived to the desk for check in, the staff tells us to have a seat and wait in a very in nonchalant way which made us feel very unwelcomed. As there were no other people by the desk…
The breakfast was very standard. Nothing special.
Overall I would not give this hotel more than 2,5 stars. Would not recommend.

Poor hotel owned by a bunch of liars. Room had mold, and was not at all worth it. Decided to cancel booking, and was told I’d get a refund, but no refund arrived and owner don’t want to take responsibility. Stay away from this hotel at all costs!

What's good in the Villa? The staff, very friendly and helpful. The breakfast and that the coffee machine always is available. Our room had a bad smell during 5 nights. They didn't manage to fix it. The room was starting to need a maintenance as well.
2 days in a row where they don't give new towels. After complaining I got 2 small.
Close to train. 12 min walk to the beach. Quite silent outside. Small but ok balcony
