Athens Marriott Hotel

I am done trying to maintain a “everything is good” attitude lately, especially when it comes to general service expectations. The accommodation at a Marriott Hotel is certainly not free, and it’s not as if the hotel is doing us a favor by providing this room. They need to understand this, and perhaps the hard way—with an honest and direct review like this one.

The irony is that we hold Titanium Elite status with Marriott, and this was the room we were “upgraded” to. God help those without a membership!

Let me be brief:
• Curtains hanging off their rod.
• A mirror covered in grease, clearly not cleaned—those are my finger trails on the mirror to show how dirty it was!
• A leaking, moldy suspended ceiling located right next to the A/C, forcing us to breathe in “fresh air” all night.
• A toilet paper holder nearly falling off the wall.

And this is supposed to be a suite?

I refuse to be polite and address this directly with the hotel management because offering a room in such a state—falling apart—is unacceptable for anyone, let alone a Titanium Elite member. Nobody is stupid enough to fall for this as an acceptable standard of service.

The only reason I am giving two stars is for the gentleness and professionalism of the reception staff, who kindly informed us that no other upgrade options were available. However, this clearly indicates the problem lies with management, whose responsibility it is to ensure rooms are in proper condition before offering them to guests.

In short, this was a massive disappointment.
