Such a beautiful hotel. If youre on the top floors with a suite, you get an AMAZING large LARGE balcony with a view of the Acropolis. Also some of the most friendly warm and extremely beautiful/attractive staff/guests as well. This place is high class indeed and welcomes travelers from all over. Its close to the city center as well with lots to see and do around the area.

This well-known hotel features modern rooms with a well-stocked minibar—definitely a pleasant surprise compared to the empty minibar at the Intercontinental Vienna. If your budget allows, I highly recommend choosing a room with a view of the Acropolis; the sight of this ancient landmark in the distance is truly breathtaking. However, be aware that your view might be slightly obstructed by some odd yellow structures nearby. Additionally, the soundproofing in the rooms could be improved, as it's easy to be disturbed while trying to sleep. Overall, it’s a great choice for those wanting a comfortable stay with a touch of history.

I’m an IHG loyalist. I can tell you the difference between the breakfast buffet at the Intercontinental hotels in Rome and Athens (sheeps milk yogurt vs honey in the comb) and quality is a hallmark of the experience. It’s a luxury hotel. That’s what you are paying for. The locations, the ambiance, and the service. Generally, everything is as close to perfect as one can get.
We checked in last night. The desk staff was incredibly accommodating, the bellmen first rate, housekeeping perfect.
When we encounter someone who isn’t personable it’s frankly jarring. And when the incident is repeated you know it’s a pattern of behavior and not just someone having a bad day.
The officious gentleman with reading glasses who asks for your room number when entering the breakfast cafe near the pool is difficult. The first time we came, we were not yet guests, and he was rude.
Today, when we gave our room number, he practically spat, “Breakfast is not included with your room!” in a condescending and brisk manner which seemed to imply that it was out of our price range.
Everyone else here is absolutely tops! The servers and wait staff anticipate your needs, are friendly and helpful. It’s just this one guy who you have to get past, like a troll on a bridge.

Had a great stay at this hotel while visiting Athens, the location is ideal for exploring the city center and Acropolis using the nearby trams, buses, or metro. Staff were courteous and extremely helpful. They always went out of their way to be friendly and welcoming. Although the immediate surroundings look a bit dire the view from the rooftop restaurant and bar was absolutely stunning and more than made up for it. Speaking of the Premiere Bar, it was our favorite part of our stay. We had the pleasure of being served by Stella who was incredibly attentive and friendly, she even spoke spanish which greatly helped my family communicate their orders! All in all this was a great place to stay during our visit and I would absolutely stay again.

My wife and I just stayed here for two nights. This is a fantastic Hotel with outstanding service. It was located perfectly for us and what we wanted to see. Today was our last day there. We left our bags with the doorman, as we were going to an island for the day and were going to return in the afternoon to collect our bags as we were heading to the airport this afternoon. When the taxi dropped us off at the port for the ferry, my wife realized she left her cell phone in the taxi. My phone wouldn’t work as we were trying to call the taxi company. We decided to head back to the Intercontinental and talk to the doorman who we had left our bags with. He got on his phone immediately and started trying to locate the taxi. After a few minutes, he said go have a good time, when you come back, i will have your cell phone for you, the taxi driver has found it and he will be bringing it here. We went to the island and returned to the Intercontinental. Unfortunately, the same doorman wasn’t there, but as promised, my wife’s cellphone was there waiting for us. I hope management can reach out to me. I would like to thank him for his outstanding service and send him a token of our appreciation. This was outstanding customer service we really appreciate how we were treated. If ever in Athens again, we already know where we will stay.

Stayed at this InterContinental in Athens and enjoyed it a lot. Great location, luxurious all around, and with decent amenities. The rooms were nice and large, well-maintained, and cozy to return to after spending time in Athens! Also a great location within Athens; close taxi ride to all the icons in the city.
However, when we were checking in, one of the front desk ladies wasn’t all too understanding that after our long flight, we needed our room to sleep. Not too helpful until Dionsis, the main manager, helped us in getting our room. He understood the situation and was very gracious in assisting us and delivering a result rather than just talk. If you want something actually done in a 5 star manner, get him on the line (without him, this wouldn’t be a five star review).
One thing I have for improvement is that the two levels underneath the lobby were open to the expo, then closed and remained closed for the rest of our stay (see video). We didn’t get to walk down there…
Nevertheless, despite those small kinks, I still do think this hotel deserves the 5 stars because it was a great hotel stay with all the amenities.

Terrible Service and Disrespectful Staff
I stayed at The Athenaeum Intercontinental from July 7-12 while attending a conference. Unfortunately, my experience was marred by terrible service and disrespectful treatment from the staff.
One day, I left my white buttoned shirt on the bed and went out for an hour. Upon returning, I found that the maid had cleaned the room, changed the sheets, and taken my shirt to the laundry along with the linens. I immediately called the reception, and the maid came to help search the room, but we couldn't find the shirt. I had to attend the conference without my shirt, despite informing them that it was 100% on my bed before leaving.
For two days, they couldn’t locate my shirt in the laundry. Despite me telling them that I needed it for a talk at the conference, they showed no concern. When I asked to speak to the manager, I was made to feel like I was overreacting. Instead of taking me seriously, they offered me an employee's shirt, which was incredibly rude and degrading.
It took them two days to find my shirt and return it to me. During this time, I felt belittled and disrespected. The staff's lack of empathy and their dismissive attitude made my stay extremely unpleasant. This experience left me in tears and feeling deeply hurt.
I strongly advise against staying at The Athenaeum Intercontinental. Their poor customer service and disrespectful treatment of guests are unacceptable. Save yourself the trouble and stay elsewhere.

It was a seamless experience from check-in to departure. They even had our room ready early, which was perfect after our early morning flight and train ride. A 30-minute walk from sights was nice, too. The food was good and the view from Premiere was amazing at sundown. I highly recommend and will stay again!

Room: The sofa bed is old and makes sound whenever you move. House keeping didn't really clean our room well.
On the Friday evening, there was a party whole night long until 6am the next day. We didn't sleep at all.
Other than that, the breakfast is great and the gym is fully equipped.
Location is fine for the fit ones as it's still far from all the tourist spots by walking.

Very nice hotel. Staff seemed to be quite busy. We had to call 2/3 times for items we needed in our room. At 6pm our room had not been cleaned, then when we were in bed at 9pm, the person showed up to clean our room - no thanks. The hotel manager told me they actually have until 9pm to clean the rooms. I can't believe that is a policy. If you are there to visit ancient ruins, it is a bit of a distance. There is a hop on-hop off bus.
