What we liked: • Peaceful neighborhood, far from the city buzz — perfect if you’re after some quiet time. • Friendly elderly hosts, very kind and helpful (they speak some English — or just use Google Translate/GPT and you’re good). • Clean rooms, comfy bed, tasty breakfast, hot water, and strong Wi-Fi. • Affordable pricing and plenty of parking spots out front (paid, like most of Budapest). What to keep in mind: – Not central — you’ll need a car or be okay navigating public transport. – Only one hairdryer for the whole guesthouse, so you have to request it and return after use. – Parking is not free — a tip for drivers: install the Simple app for easy payment.

An family business with lots of secret jems. From a very good restaurant near by, with lots of shopping areas around 300m. For children it is a big public playing ground nearby.

Location quiet neighborhood, and that's where the positive ends. The owner/s are something else, older couple, whose home you are staying in.First question asked of us is if we smoke, and owner pleased to hear we did not, because he said there is no smoking allowed, except for outdoors,well...the cigarette smoke permeated the whole house, and got worse,as it got cold out and windows, were closed. Complained to staff, was told one of the owners smoked!!! As a non smoker I can smell smoke very easily, and it was overwhelming in the hallways, etc. So,if the wife smoked, then WHY ask us if we didn't!? It was horrible,it permeated our clothes everything, disgusting! Then got told of the "breakfast" times, which ended at 9a.m ,at exactly 9:02 the owner,in his robe, walked out,as 4 people were just finishing our coffee's and we're sitting there chatting, and being told by staff, that it was ok to sit and finish coffee, the old guy in robe, just walked out, didn't say a word, just raised arm with watch on it ,and made motion of pointing at watch, and then motioned with finger to get out,not a single word!!! Are you kidding me?!?! How RUDE,and childish, and totally unnecessary and unacceptable, at 2 minutes after 9:00 a.m !!!! The room was clean enough, was asked for 2 separate beds, and was given one,and a cot unmade!! The towels,a whole another story, they were SO stiff that I truly thought they were starched, hard as a rock, and nearly scratching ones skin off their body, found out elsewhere, when asking about water, and telling our horrible towel story, that water very hard, and there is a definite need for softener when washing anything,so quit being so cheap, since I've seen others complaining of rough towels, and use fabric softener!! It was horrible! The house is a fire hazard,as one is locked in the home, and without a key, cannot exit! In case of a fire or emergency, one cannot go out the front door,no manual lock from inside, rather a keyed lock. So if fire, and key not on hand, you cannot open front door at all,I was scared. Not going to even talk of the breakfast,it's been already mentioned by many how very poor it is. I feel sorry for staff, who seem scared at all times. I would NOT recommend this panzio/hotel ,unless you smoke, don't like breakfasts and don't mind being locked inside, and cannot get out unless open door from inside with a key,and wouldn't mind being burned alive,in case there is a fire!

We booked this place for the decent prices and the claims that they have AC in the rooms as we were travelling in peak summers. But we learned our lesson the hard way. The guesthouse offers Air-conditioning on conditional basis for a few hours in the day. You absolutely have no control over that. They switch off the AC in the nights. No amount of requesting will make them turn it on for you. The room lacks any proper ventilation so you are forced to open the windows for air and for relief from the summer heat. The hotel is located in a noisy neighborhood. So you can't sleep with the windows open post say 5 am. So we had sleepless and sweaty nights here. To add to the misery, the creaky bed is uncomfortable and the flat as a crepe pillow doesn't help. The manager is bitter and very insensitive to requests and doesn't care a bit about the customers. Was happy to check out of this hotel, never to go back again. The breakfast is just mediocre with some basic items off the supermarket shelf. No toiletries except for a tiny piece of soap.

The owner was very kind and helpful.
Very nice environment if you can keep track of your keys.

First it says it is 8 minutes from the center which was not the case, we walked for more than 40 minutes to get there from the city center. Then when we arrived there was no sign, no doorbell, nothing that said the building was an hotel. I tried to call many times but the number didn’t exist (I asked the host for the right number once inside, he said that the hotel does NOT have a phone! UNACCEPTABLE!) Once inside, the staff did not great us, demanded us to sit and pay. And now we get to the worst part. We paid months ago with our traveling agency, but when we arrived the host asked us to pay more than 200€ because he said that he didn’t receive any money, which was not true. The staff was very rude and unkind, we felt really uncomfortable since they kept yelling and threatening us to leave. It was very scary, since they barely spoke English, and demanded us to pay refusing to let us call our agency. We decided to pay the fine and change hotel. If I could give less than 1 I would, a terrible experience. I suggest you do not come here.

If you are into something modern and private then this is not the place for you. It is beginning to show its age on the inside but we were quite fine with that - a different experience for us on our 6 week trip across Europe. Overall staff were pleasant, in particular the young lady who checked us in and who was extremely helpful and ensured, after a mix-up, that we had off-street parking. Breakfast was adequate although it would be nice to have at least another 30 minutes as they clear up around 9am. Great place to meet some interesting people and we had a nice chat around the breakfast table with guests from Germany, Spain and Poland. Room and bathroom were nice and warm and it was only a short walk to public transport and local dining options.

I am currently staying in Hotel Ábel Pension and so far it’s been absolutely fantastic. My experience here started 3 days ago when me and my girlfriend checked in at this villa from 1913. As soon as you entered in the pension, you are welcomed by the staff members and sometimes the owner who is a very polite and calm gentleman. On walls, there are paintings made by the talented owner. This place is one of the cleanest hotels I had ever been to. The carpets are always vacuumed up, there is absolutely no dust and the architecture of this villa is just amazing. Our room is very clean as well and I’m impressed to see that the housekeepers are changing everyday the towels, making the bed and taking out the trash. The food is very good also, high quality butter, ham, Hungarian salami, tea bags, milk, cereals and others. We talked about his paintings and honestly I’m glad that I’ve booked here. I am on a budget so the price was very convenient for us. I’m definitely going to take this place in consideration if we will ever come to Budapest.

Youth hostel with rude, stingy owner
I spent 3 nights there February 2023. It was my +20th time in Budapest, the first time on my own and my worst stay. I wanted to be away from the center and big hotels for a change. I was utterly disappointed and reminded of times long past when Hungary was still part of the Eastern Block.
1. Prices for 2 were the same as for one (I was by myself) when I stayed. Instead of a nice big room as in the pictures I got a very small room onto the street and next to the entrance. the staircase leading to the front door let people see right into my room. The noise level was extremely high til late at night (morning) as everyone had to pass past my room/door unlocking/locking and passing through 3 creaking doors. I asked for a bright, quiet room upstairs and out the back with a balcony. Even though there were empty rooms, the owner would not let me change. So even though I paid for two people i got the single room bum deal. Very discriminatory.
2. I was by far the oldest person (53) there. Every one else was in their early 20s.
3. Breakfast is not buffet. It's served (3 half slices of ham, 3 slices of salami, 4 small slices of cheese. Everything lowest possible quality.) Coffee is lousy. Bread is of the cheapest white kind, stale and old. Everyone sits down at one big table as in the picture.
4. Front door has to be locked at all times which no one told me. The owner treated me and scolded me like a misbehaving child for not having locked on day 1. The lack of respect for a grown woma

Towels are stiff rags suitable for a full body peeling. For the price of the room it's easy to rent an apartment even in the center. Save yourself the disappointment and stay somewhere else. Budapest has loads of other options.
