City Hotel Budapest

I was fortunate to spend a night at this fine establishment on 4 September 2024.
Crazy check in process with 44 people checking in and another bus load arriving. We were asked to leave our passports with the front desk and they would return them later. I understand they have a process to follow but when traveling leaving your passport with somebody is a no no.
Our room was ok.
Toilet flushing system was broke and repaired which was good.
I was disappointed with the response I received from the lady at the front counter the day of our departure when I shared with her a photo and a video of the water coming out of the shower. I have never had a shower and come out dirtier then when I went in.
Her response was they must be working on the pipes out on the street. Interesting as it was 6.30 am.
I just think this hotel is in desperate need of repair but the place all of the coach people there for convenience.
Such a shame as they could have accommodated us next door.

You can not trust them, they would not check in without a passport (that's fine it's Hungary) however, they wanted to us to leave our passport with them for an hour and they would return it to us later. They simply kept refusing to scan while I was at the lobby saying it's for their own systems they need it for an hour.

We were required to give up our passports to receive a room. The reception said they had to scan them according to "company policy". They had all of our passports, we are traveling with a large group, for over 4 hours. We were forced to be in a foreign country with no form of official ID. If it was company policy, they would have a way to scan the passport and give it back right away. I looked at the company website,

and could not find this policy anywhere. I will not stay at any of their hotels ever again. I highly recommend that if you are traveling in Eastern Europe, you find a better hotel to stay at.
