Hotel Continental Mare in Ischia Town

Summer 2024 my husband and I have discovered this fabulous and unique hotel we have fallen in love with it that we have returned for our 2025 summer holidays. This magnificent hotel is on a cliffhanger where you get breathtaking views over the sea having access directly into the sea just just stepping off and on a ladder and a choice of two pools very individual to one another. A boutique resort of only 57 rooms. Quietly located near the center of Ischia island. The hotel offers as well a fantastic SPA, with extraordinary and qualified staff as well of an outdoor gym. Additionally, the hotel restaurant and reception and all remaining staff are excellent qualified friendly welcoming in a 100/100 scale. And we have already booked for our upcoming 2026 summer holidays.

This hotel was one of the best parts on our trip to ischia. The views, the gardens, the food were amazing. Rooms are pretty simple and clean, with a super comfortable bed.

on the other hand for a 4* hotel to not have some coffee and a kettle in the room is so last century. Our friends who had the next level of pricing they had it and they also got free water daily, i didn’t and i was not having the cheapest room as it was a sea view room. Also the sea view i paid for was let’s say almost there if we take in consideration that was a bit visible through the trees.

I had such a lovely stay here. It really exceeded my expectations. On arrival I was blown away by just how beautiful this hotel is and the grounds and views. It is immaculate and very well kept. The pool area is stunning. So relaxed, clean, the views of the sea are lovely. The staff were all very friendly and professional.

We really enjoyed breakfast it was delicious and again breakfast with a sea view is just a great start to the day

We had a beautiful room and were very comfortable. The bed was great and the decor lovely.

The hotel has a private jetty into the ocean which we enjoyed. You can relax sunbathe have a swim and there is a staff member on hand if you would like a drink, beer and you can order lunch.

I would highly recommend this hotel. I could easily of spent a week here!

I spent a week in this hotel with my 7 month old while my husband was at a conference. Whilst the amenities are fabulous, its the staff who really make this place special. Meals in the restaurant were first and chef was very accommodating to Gluten free diet. The dining room and patio have breathtaking views overlooking the sea. Special shout-out to Vittorio and his wonderful team in the restaurant, Roberta & Giovanna at the reception, Camine in the spa and Carlo at the pool and sea. You really don’t even need to leave the hotel to have a wonderful holiday. We will be returning

This was a special trip as we were celebrating our Silver Wedding anniversary. The long winding driveway leading steeply down to the hotel hinted to the treasure we would find. The cliff side setting means that the grounds maybe aren’t suitable for those with mobility issues, but creates a dramatic setting for a blissful holiday. Our sea view room (room 306) was perched right on the cliff and our private balcony offered uninterrupted views across the bay to mainland Italy, stunning both during the day and offered a welcome cooling breeze at night.

The room was clean and offered everything we needed. The air conditioning unit worked well and the room was always cool and pleasant.

There was a wide range of food and drinks for breakfast with all tastes catered for. I doubt anyone could find cause for complaint! As we stayed bed and breakfast we only ate in the hotel restaurant once, but it was the best meal we had on the island all week, food was outstanding. There is also a small bar menu for informal eating which we made use of several times.

The grounds are stunning and immaculately kept. The hotel offers 2 pool areas in both a terrace and garden setting with a third option of a sea platform with access to the water.

The hotel is set just outside the town of Ischia Porto but there is a complimentary shuttle bus into town, although it stops operating at 16:30. There is also a pedestrian path from the hotel into town which takes around 10 minutes but it is quite steep on the return. The town is well worth exploring both during the day and in the evening. There is a bus stop close to the hotel gates for exploring further with a golf cart to help with the steep hill!

The staff were all professional, friendly and very helpful. There were plenty of staff in all areas of the hotel.

There are many hotels situated in more central locations, but we didn’t see anywhere during our week on the island that rivalled the luxury and beauty of the Continental Mare. We would come back on a heartbeat.

We stayed at the hotel for 4 nights and we had a pleasant stay. We had a nice comfortable room with a beautiful terrace. Perfect location with the two pools (thermal and slightly warm) and the beach.
However, when we were checked in by the friendly reception staff, we did not receive a lot of information. Such as a transfer/shuttle was available and a shortcut/path down to ischia harbor, short time slot for lunch (1 hour and 15 minutes), towels costs 5 euros, etc.
But it was a lovely stay!

The winding drive down to reception serves to prepare you for what you are about to discover; an oasis of tranquility and exceptional beauty!
From the moment you reach the reception area, you are greeted by the most exquisite flowers and plants all immaculately presented. A theme that runs throughout the entire grounds. The attention to detail is superb.
This is also true of the incredibly welcoming and friendly staff. They go above and beyond to ensure you are satisfied with every aspect of your stay; from the porters to the restaurant staff and of course the incredibly accommodating reception staff. I believe this is down to the great leadership skills and kind heartedness of the owner Elena Leonessa, who also owns 3 other incredible #LeoHotels in Ischia.
I have to say that it was refreshing to feel ‘normal’ as being coeliac (gluten free) can often elicit a rather negative reaction in some establishments. I’m happy to say that they were well aware of cross contamination issues and I felt extremely well catered for. In fact, we had one of the best meals of the holiday at their outstanding restaurant!
The room itself was tastefully decorated and immaculately cleaned every day. The bed was beyond comfortable and huge! There was a fully stocked minibar and free to use safe. We were greeted with some complimentary homemade biscuits and a view to die for! The enormous terrace (equipped with sun loungers and sofa area) with it’s out of this world triple aspect views of the sea and Vesuvius in the distance were the icing on the cake! The forever changing colours of the sunset are simply breathtaking.
There are two gorgeous pools both with thermal waters. A pool bar was being installed in the one at the top and is surrounded by comfortable double bed sunloungers with drapes. Maybe we’ll get to enjoy a drink or 2 from there next time! The uniquely shaped and rather original design of the lower pool was my favourite as it also had jets at either end and a sloping entrance to the water. Also set in simply stunning surroundings.
All in all, I would whole-heartedly recommend this hotel to anyone looking to discover Ischia and all it’s beauty. There is even a free shuttle bus that takes you to the port or if you prefer, there is a rather enchanting pathway which will lead you to the port in about 10-15 minutes.
