San Marco Palace in Venice

Our room had a view of a wall, it was dark, depressing, and the furniture was old and broken. Instead of replacing a collapsing sofa, they covered it with a sheet. Gross. The hallway leading to the elevator had cleaning supplies and bags of laundry laying against the walls. This place was awful.

We got a deluxe suite. We tried to call them over the phone we arrived but the number was not in service. Took us a while to find the hotel and when we did, there is no ordinary hotel entrance, it’s a locked, wooden door with no door bell. After some checking with the locals, we found that the hotel has another name, similar but a bit different which belongs to the same group. The receptionist was very polite and helpful, brought us to our room through many corridors, stairs and elevators. She offered someone to help carry our luggages but we rather carried our own, we regretted that later. After getting into the huge apartment with 2 rooms, a kitchen and a bathroom; there are no complimentary drinking water provided in the apartment, no kettle if you want to get some hot water; the kitchen is basically empty other than an oven, a fridge with some chargeable drinks in the fridge and a dining table/chairs, no cutleries, no dishes, no iron for clothes. The queen size bed we had was put together by two single beds. There is a working safe in the cupboard, the bathroom is quite big, shower in the bath tub is working fine but the angle made it difficult not wetting the floor. The hair dryer worked fine, there was no hair conditioner, no body lotion, no sleepers and no place to hang your clothes nor towels. To sum it all up, the only good thing is the location with no view, we were only a stone throw away from St Mark’s Square and we could hear the bell rang at night. In short, the hotel is superb if all you want is good location no matter the cost, unless there are 4 of you staying. For us, we will not return. Thank you.

My wallet was stolen between arriving and them bringing my luggage up. I flagged in the lobby that I had valuables and my suitcase shouldn’t be left in the middle of the public area and the woman said, “don’t worry my colleagues are here.”
When the baggage came up, my wallet that i had at arrival was gone. I went to the desk to ask for help and the woman only said, “so you don’t have cash or cards now? How will you pay us the four euro in city tax you owe?”
No help, no concern, no kindness. Truly the rudest staff I’ve encountered traveling and certainly not the kind of treatment you expect, or feel is worth, what you pay at a four star hotel.
There are plenty of other options in this area, my advice is to find somewhere else.
