Reviews
The rooms are ridiculously outdated, with furniture that’s over 30 years old. If you’re looking for modern comfort, you won’t find it here. There isn’t even a basic hairdryer in the room, not a single hook for the towels or something else.. The entire room was infested with ants, and when I complained to the staff, they did nothing to solve the problem.
The cleaning staff seems to think their job is just to empty the trash can – they don’t even change the towels properly! For a three-star hotel, I would expect the towels to be changed at least every other day, but here, you can only dream of that. The only thing that is ok, is the food and the Botanical garden.
The staff is incredibly unprofessional. Their English is so bad that it’s nearly impossible to communicate. Overall, this hotel is a complete disaster, and I highly recommend everyone to avoid it at all costs. A horrible experience that I wouldn’t wish on anyone!
Our room had a spider nest and dead worms in it, no toilet paper either. Nevertheless, the staff did swiftly change our room when we informed them of the issue.
The food is edible, but nothing fancy.
They have a sublime garden and the beach is close but it's small and rocky.
The staff are responsive and polite, but, overall, I do not think they should charge 100 leva per night.
I was terrified of going with my toddler, because of these reviews, and they are totally unfounded.
The bathroom - was pristine, and I am really particular about bathrooms in hotels. Photo attached to my review. 10 for cleanliness.
Parking space - There are more than enough parking spaces on the premises.
The room - it was cleaned every day, towels changed as well, toilet paper and toiletries were more than enough. There is a mini fridge in the room, with no freezer part in it, but it does an okay-ish job of cooling water bottles. The AC worked perfectly the entire time, which I appreciate a lot.
There are very few (i.e. little to no) mosquitoes around, I would know because I have a blood type which mosquitoes really like, so I don’t really get away without being bitten, anywhere I go.
Reception personnel - are super nice and they do their best to communicate in English. I very much appreciated the fact that right at check-in they were honest about their beach, the hotel’s beach, and said theirs is terrible and very small (true) and we are welcome to use the next door hotel’s beach (Cabacum). We ended up driving downtown anyway to the promenade beach which is way smoother to enter the water, and the sand is smoother as well, also less waves than in other parts at the same moment in time, probably because it’s the most protected (by the two piers to the left and right).
Half-board - I don’t necessarily recommend, for one because “buffet” means you can’t pick your own piece of food but instead get served whatever the servers want (who don’t speak a word of English or any other language), and secondly because it’s not varied, or very little so, some mornings the omelette was raw, with raw yolk flowing freely all around, the menemen they had one morning had completely raw eggs in it, some mornings some of the hot dogs were very obviously left over from yesterday and thrown on top of the bunch (they were grey!).
A lovely and thoughtful touch are the double drapes, the outer drape made of some sort of plastic like material which doesn’t let the heat through, and the inner drape made of some sort of silk-like material which keeps everything cool.
The botanical garden is actually very lovely and so welcome because it keeps everything cooler than in town.
Don’t count on the playground, it’s a relic from the 80’s, but we had no expectations there so all is well.
The hotel pool is nice, water is super clean and there are always enough sun beds and umbrellas to go around. There is a kiddie pool part, which our toddler loved.
The mattresses are okay, but the double bed would have ideally been one single mattress instead of two twin beds pushed together like it was.
However, we made it work, and all in all the room is excellent and no complaints from me.
Just perfect!!!
I recently visited Hotel Journalist and had a mixed experience. While the botanical garden on the premises was absolutely stunning, the hotel itself left much to be desired.
Let's start with the positive: the botanical garden was a delightful oasis filled with a variety of trees and plants. It offered a serene and peaceful environment, perfect for nature enthusiasts and those seeking a relaxing stroll. The highlight for me was the outdoor cinema, which added a unique touch to the garden's charm.
Unfortunately, my enthusiasm waned when it came to the hotel. It felt as though time had stood still for the past 30 years, and the overall appearance was in dire need of renovation. The infrastructure seemed rundown, giving the impression that the place was on the verge of being demolished. It's safe to say that the hotel does not live up to the beauty of its surroundings.
Based on my experience, I would hesitate to recommend staying at Hotel Journalist. However, if you happen to be in the area, I highly encourage you to take a leisurely walk through the botanical garden. The natural beauty and peaceful ambiance are worth exploring, even if the hotel falls short of expectations.
In summary, Hotel Journalist offers a picturesque botanical garden that is worth a visit, but the hotel itself fails to provide a comfortable and satisfactory accommodation experience.
Nice sea view from the hotel and friendly staff at the restaurant.
Negative points:
The description and pictures on Booking do not reflect the reality:
The hotel’s private beach is almost inexistent, it is just a small sandbank with 3-4 umbrellas. The beach is dirty : a large number of algae stands there and the smell is nauseating.
Bad free Wi-Fi connection, better using our own 4G connection.
The balcony was right next to the neighbor’s one : no privacy. There were a lot of insect nests all along balconies celling. The glass separating our balcony from our neighbor’s was broken and the furniture was made of cheap plastic.
Ugly room: White walls, no decoration and old furnitures, feeling of being in a hospital room
We asked for one double bed and had two simple beds next to each other. They were not well made and not comfortable.
The room was equipped with a TV from the 50’s which did not work.
No bedside lamp as it was shown on the pictures on Booking.
The shower towels were dirty.
The room was supposed to be equipped with a Minibar but the fridge was empty.
The carpet of the room was completely damaged.
Food was not tasty. you better pay to eat out.
For all those reasons we decided to leave the hotel since it were our last two days in Bulgaria. We asked to be partially reimbursed for the two next nights we had booked but they told us it was not possible, they didn't do any gesture to compensate and no solution was given to improve our experience in the hotel.
We will never recommended this hotel. It was our worst experience.
