The Stanley in Athens

I give this hotel 3 stars because my experience was mixed. The room was a very bad experience. There was a lot of noise coming from the balcony. The glass and window frame are not soundproof at all — I could hear everything outside, like I was sitting on a terrace facing the road, even though my room was 820. I’ve stayed in many hotels before and never had this issue.

The fridge was very old and extremely noisy. It’s inside the closet, and I could hear it all night, which was very annoying. The shampoo in the shower was diluted with water. When I pressed the bottle, only water came out. I called and asked for a proper shampoo with real texture, and they said okay, but no one ever came. The lamps above the bed are badly placed. You can’t sit up or lean properly in bed because you’ll hit your head on the lamp.

On the positive side, the breakfast buffet was really good. The food tasted great, there were many options, and the waiters were friendly and fast.

The executive lounge is very nice and useful, and I enjoyed it. The location is okay, about a 15–20 minute walk from important places and things to do.
The lobby staff were amazing, room service was good as well, and I also tried the massage service, which was very professional and enjoyable.

Stayed in one of the suites for 6 nights. Room and hotel are lovely and not a bad location if you’re happy walking/using public transport to get to some busier areas.
Unfortunately not the best experience with the staff. We had a difficult situation where in which I asked if we could extend our stay an extra night and was happy to change room. After standing for an eternity whilst reception called the reservations team I was told that the only room available was our suite at over double what I paid a night and they had a strict policy where I would have to pay for 2 extra nights instead of the one I requested. I can’t understand that policy when we had already spent 6 nights there but they were adamant. This resulted in a huge cost and unfortunately it meant we had to move hotel for the extra night. Without going into detail that was very difficult in the circumstances for one of my party.
Our fault but we also left a bag of shopping in one of the cupboards in the room (only Christmas decorations etc) I attempted to phone 4 times - cut off twice then told to call back as they only look at lost property at certain times. We decided to make the trip across town to ask in person (morning after checkout on the way to the airport). Again a lengthy phone call to house keeping to be told to wait and when I pushed for an answer they made a quick call and said they checked and nothing was there!?

A shame as a lovely room with a lovely rooftop/restaurant but all my requests were met with the feeling that they couldn’t be bothered to help in anyway and also feel our possessions were just discarded.
