Our holiday at TUI BLUE Atlantica Creta Paradise hasn't ended yet, but I'm writing this review 4 days before leaving as I'm sure nothing will change and maybe this information will help someone before deciding whether to book a stay here or not. We wish we knew all this before booking.

We booked a 10-night holiday with TUI because it seemed their hotels are family-friendly and our almost 3-year-old would enjoy it. Unfortunately it's definitely not what we expected and paying thousands of euros / pounds for this is ridiculous.

See my full review on TripAdvisor.

- It's absolutely impossible to have a restful night sleep or a lunchtime nap. We got a ground floor room and the noise is constant. The housekeeping ladies are extremely loud, constantly shouting, laughing and talking outside the rooms. They seem to spend more time having fun than doing their job. They start at around 6am and finish after 4pm. The trolleys they use to carry towels, bed sheets and cleaning supplies are extremely noisy because the wheels don't have any rubber on them. We complained twice to the front desk staff and they mentioned they'd talk to the housekeeping manager, but nothing changed. We asked for a room change hoping other areas were better, but apparently there were no available rooms (but we believe they just didn't want to help). Most people go on holiday to rest, right? Well, it seems TUI disagrees. If it's not the housekeeping staff, it's the staff bringing the luggage to the rooms or the loud guests shouting at crazy hours. We've travelled a lot throughout the years, all over the world, and stayed in all types of hotels. It's the first time we haven't managed to sleep properly / rest. Our toddler was always awakened by the noise. Today, my husband got out of the room when our daughter was having her lunchtime nap to ask the cleaning ladies to be quiet. The noise continued, so there's absolutely no respect for guests.
- On our first morning here, we were awakened by the fire alarm at 5am because someone smoke in the room. I guess it says a lot about the type of people who come to this hotel.
- The housekeeping staff don't clean the rooms properly.
- The coffee is horrible. It's not real coffee, but the instant type. If you want to drink real coffee, you need to buy it from their coffee shop - again, ridiculous based on how much money you pay for a holiday here.
- TUI advertises the private beach as being sand-and-shingle, so we expected small pebbles. There are some quite big stones, for a large portion before going into the water (and also for a portion in the water), so not suitable for young children. Something to keep in mind if you want to spend most of your time at the beach.
- The pools open at 10am and close at 6pm, so if you have a baby / young child who doesn't spend much (if any) time outside between 12pm and 4pm, you get minimal pool time.
- The evening entertainment for children is extremely loud. We, as adults, find it loud, let alone our daughter. If your children are always listening to blaring music in the car / at home, they'll enjoy it. Also, it's very much focused on using big, bright screens. If you avoid using screentime with your children, it's not a suitable hotel for you.
- The hotel prides itself with its healthy eating initiative for children, but the types of food they offer in the children's buffet are definitely not healthy or of good quality. There are much better options in the adults' section.
- There's so much scientific evidence that when it comes to children, rewards don't work (to the contrary, they're completely not recommended). Yet TUI came up with a reward card as part of their healthy eating initiative so children can get stickers for their eating habits. After seeing so many children with these reward cards, we had to get one for our daughter although we never use rewards with her. Not ideal.
- The furniture in the rooms is outdated and there's a very bad smell in the wardrobe, drawers etc.

Definitely wouldn’t recommend. Arriving at the hotel the gentleman helped us with our bags and check in was a breeze. On arriving at our room I noticed the floor hadn’t been hoovered there was dust everywhere. Never mind I can sort that I wiped the floor and proceeded to the bathroom nice clean but the hand cleaner bottle well it looked 10 years old and even had mould inside the bottle. That went straight in the bin. The tap and a thick coat of green stuff when I lifted the tap to turn on yuck! The cot provided was disgusting something from the 80’s maybe with ripped mesh each side stained and the mattress was a heavily strained, brown piece of foam with a sheet wrapped round it. The form wasn’t even big enough to fit the cot with large gaps top and bottom. My little girl wasn’t going in that no way. For a TUI blue 4+ star resort I would hate to think what a 4 or 3 star would be like. Atlantica Creta Paradise, worn out suite with private pool not worth the money. The food was uneatable tasteless and cheap buffet slop ok I suppose for someone without taste buds, and the a la carte restaurants are fully booked. Day 2, shower handle broke off in my hand, air con didn’t work had to keep resetting the switch board yes they said I can play with electrics if we stops working!!! Hair dryer wouldn’t dry the hair on a hairless person and shorts after just 2 minutes. Having long hair that is frizzy if left to dry naturally meant I had to tie my hair back for the rest of the holiday very attractive :( Thank you to my wonderful husband that bought me a hair dryer in Chania :) a short lived happiness as that same day I opened the mini fridge door to get a semi cold drink as it didn’t work well and the fridge door came off it’s hinge and hit my foot and my big toenail ripped up and was only still attached by a little bit of nail, blood everywhere and the pain makes me shiver just looking back at it. All in all not worth booking with TUI and definitely save your money and go else where even the furniture is crumbling at the bases

Nice hotel lots of bars and food places food is of a good quality at the buffet the entertainment was decent particularly the watch man show beach is clean with lots of loungers the pools have good amount of loungers one complaint the there wasn't many signs telling you where toilets were so it was a case of finding them

The staff and food were amazing. We all sat at the pool and the football coaches were amazing. And the beach was lovely at night, the bar staff were having a good time especially at the pool bar near beach at night and the singer was absolutely outstanding he sang in English which wasn't his 1st language he spoke Dutch, French and English which he spoke him and he was brilliant at guitar singing songs from 60s to the 90s, he came on at lunch near one of the restaurants and the at 7 at the same place and at night around 9:30 he just had a great time and he did special requests and he learnt rocket man specially for my brother which was amazing. The trip on a cruise to various Greek islands around Crete was beautiful. Also there was a lot of stray cats and dogs around trying to get food in restaurants. The only downside about the rooms are the marble floors which were slippy but apart from that everything was amazing including every staff member including receptionists, football coaches, bar staff etc. I would love to come back here.

We have just returned from a week stay and we had the best time! All the staff from the hotel were incredibly welcoming and helpful! The restaurant staff were so welcoming and the kids looked forward to dinner time immensely! They loved the games room and all the activities around the hotel! We played tennis and golf! The hotel is clean and well looked after. Also a big shout out to the Tui Blue team who was also so friendly and entertaining! We’ll definitely visit again!

Exceeded my expectations. We arrived late at night at the hotel and were very well received by Nikos who gave all the necessary attention and even with the late check in the hotel offered us a snack. The room was spacious and the cleaning service was good. Comfortable beds. The air conditioning was quiet and the curtains isolated the light well. We are a family with a teenager and a child and we were well accommodated in this family room overlooking the garden. The hotel in general is very good and is more family oriented. The entertainment at night is ok and our kid loved it. The buffet is good and there's variety of food and the drink. The drinks served by the different bars in the hotel are ok and most are included. Parking space is not an issue. The beach is in front of the hotel next to the pool, but it's not that pretty.

Absolutely fabulous sea is one second away beautiful view...Great food...

Really good hotel. Got a room with shared pool which was well worth the extra. The room was a bit small for five though. Excellent cleaning and good service.

Access to football field and tennis courts. Recommend that you bring your own rackets and balls if your serious. The ones for loan was in a terrible state. The gym is like a decently equipped home gym.

The beach was better then we expected. Read allot of reviews about rocks and sandals but it's not that bad.

Great food but with a big minus for our gluten allergic son. There are good signs on each dish about what contains gluten. But there are so few gluten free dishes or alternatives. Even corn flakes, ham, turkey, bean sauce, meat dishes, fries, potatoes. In Sweden they would have picked gluten free alternatives to start with. Besides that the staff was really nice and helpful.

Great location. The beach is pebbled to a degree but the sea is amazing. Food was great and the rooms were excellent and kept clean. Entertainment was for the children. I would suggest that this resort is best suited to families with children under six. A local bus service to Chania is every 15mins outside the complex. We really enjoyed staying here.

Overall nice hotel. Mainly focused to host families with kids. We're a married couple but we've enjoyed vacation alone. That said, what I've noticed straight away was: bar is open only till midnight (the main one that is), the bars further away from the centre of the resort close at 18:00. Our room was near the early closing ones so not ideal.
Selection of drinks from the all-inclusive offer is not very big. 3 local drinks (ouzo, raki based) then a small selection of simple mixers. All time classics like Mojito are not included. We've tested the non all-inclusive drinks (also pictured) and these have been nice. Prices are fair 7-8eur per drink. Staff doesn't seem to be used to make these as we've seen a couple of disoriented looks when we've ordered them.

The resort itself is nice and clean. One buffet for all meals. Parents with kids can expect Q's before dinner. Adults section there is a nice addition for those traveling alone. Menu has enough variety for one week. They do make small themed menus every day.

Rooms do look a little bit dated but certainly not bad overall. Clean for sure, with included AC, small fridge, etc. One minor thing was that towels smelled quite badly, probably due to the detergent they use. Using them after shower was not the best experience.

Pools officially close at 19:30.

Great unexpected benefit was the two well equipped stores just outside of the hotel. Prices there are really attractive (especially for an island), so don't be afraid if you happen to forget anything.

In-house car rental was also a very pleasant surprise. We've rented a car for one day and I've been really surprised how easy it was compared to any other European companies. Absolute minimum of paperwork, all-inclusive pricing (no extra charges for insurance) and a good selection of cars.

That said if you're willing to put a blind eye on the not so big drinks menu and the smelly towels they offer a nice experience for your money :)
