c-hotels Ambasciatori in Florence

I rarely write reviews this harsh, but my experience was far below what one expects from a so-called 4-star hotel.

First of all, the building is clearly old (understandable for Florence), but there is a difference between “historic charm” and poor maintenance. The elevators creaked and you could hear the metal cables making noises every time – not exactly reassuring when staying on the 4th floor. Also the wallpaper was peeling off at the edges of the ceiling, and the doors were dented and stuck when opening or closing. And just two power outlets, really  (?) Honestly, how much does basic maintenance cost?

Housekeeping was equally disappointing. Sheets were not changed after the first night – I know this because stains remained in the exact same spots. The bathroom, while not dirty, was far from clean. The shower tiles were worn out and cracked at some points The space cramped, and frankly, who uses a bidet in 2025 ?! The towel racks were completely impractical – round, placed too close to the wall, making towels constantly slip off and fall to the floor.

The air conditioning system was another nightmare: a clumsy controller, impossible to set to warm mode, and I suspect the unit or one of its sensors was malfunctioning or was it because the balcony door not closing tight. The card holder for the room lights sometimes didn’t make good contact with the card, which caused random power outages (momentary or longer). I often had to jiggle the card to restore the power. The balcony was dirty, and to top it off, when we checked in, the balcony table still had crumbs left from previous guests. Basic hygiene was simply ignored. The trash bins were open type without lids – especially in the bathroom, that is unacceptable.

Even worse, the cleaning staff interfered with our personal belongings. Souvenirs (like a simple bottle) were thrown away, and items in the room were moved without care. One day I left the room key card in the power slot, and instead of leaving it on the desk, the cleaners took it away entirely. Yes, the reception can provide a replacement, but it was still an unnecessary and frustrating inconvenience.

To be clear: this hotel is overpriced for what it offers. At best, it might be worth half the price. Even the fact that it is next to the train station does not justify the price, not to mention that the area is full of suspicious people at night The only positive point was the polite and helpful staff at reception, but good manners alone do not justify a 4-star rating.
