Grand Hotel Adriatico

Pros: The hotel is in a convenient location. Walking distance from the train station and a 25 minute drive to the airport with no traffic.

Cons: While the location is convenient, the block the hotel is on is sketchy. In comparison to other Four Star hotels, this hotel is dated. Elevators are as frightful as other reviewers have noted, after one use, we used the stairs for the rest of our trip. The "fitness center" was unusable during my stay there (late June/early July 2024) as it was over 80 degrees F / 26 degrees C in that small room with no ventilation.

Our actual hotel room was dreadful. The size was fine but as noted by many others, the shower situation is ridiculous with only a half-a-door, so water went everywhere.

The lock on the room door buzzes loudly upon entry. On our first day, the "lock" on our door broke and buzzed intermittently
overnight, which kept waking us up and led to to a horrid night's sleep. A manager had to come and turn off the device.

Most notably, in the early morning of July 1st, 2024, the hotel's fire alarm woke us up at 12:30 a.m. All the hotel guests were confused as it continued, so we all started trickling downstairs and outside to evacuate (without guidance). This went on for more than 30 minutes with no communication from the hotel or front desk. We were standing outside confused and half-awake, and not a single thing was said from any staff members. After about 45 minutes, an American woman (a guest) came to inform the group standing outside that she found out someone was smoking upstairs and it triggered the alarm. After nearly an hour, the alarm went off and - without direction from the hotel staff - everyone went back to their rooms. Nothing was ever said by the hotel during or after about this situation, nor was an apology extended. This speaks to the ineptitude and rudeness of the entire organization.

If you're coming to Florence, enjoy it as it's beautiful but please stay elsewhere. We saw many other hotels in this area.

If this hotel fixes some things, it could be really nice. The staff was extremely nice and helpful. However, the hotel is very outdated and needs a lot of repairs. Our bed was like sleeping on a brick, the shower didn’t drain well, one sink didn’t drain at all, the fitness room was a complete joke and the outside has sketchy people hanging around it. The staff made the stay bearable because they were so helpful, but the hotel is in disrepair and needs serious updating. I would not recommend as there are other accommodations near by for less money that are much nicer.
