The Westin Singapore

Keep your expectations at home and you'll be fine. Overall, this 5 night hotel stay was a lackluster experience. My husband had previously stayed at the JW Marriott Singapore on work trips. Being MB members, the choice was narrowed down to JW or Westin. We opted for the Westin as the beds and room were supposedly bigger for our family of four. While the beds did accommodate our family of four, the room was okay. The door to the toilet is clear glass so every time someone used the toilet and another person was in the bathroom area to wash their hands, there is zero privacy. We hung up two towels to utilize as a makeshift screen. They also need to do a thorough deep clean. Just did not expect to see dust an inch thick on the corner walls as you're looking up while brushing your teeth. For that much dust to pile up, it's clear it hasn't been cleaned in a very long time.

At check-in, there was no welcome greeting or thank you for being a member nor explanation of hotel services. It was more like, read the welcome letter that indicates your lounge services, and all the information you need to know, etc. Did we get an upgrade like we were supposed to as platinum elite members? I don't know as the staff member at check in did not tell us. We've had better check in experiences at Courtyard Marriotts.

Went to the Concierge desk at the lobby to ask where a restaurant is that was supposed to be a 10 min walk from the hotel. The concierge said she didn't know where the restaurant is and to "just check Google maps on your phone". Okay, fine we went on our own and tried to find it. As it was our first night in Singapore, we soon realized a lot of places may either be inside of buildings or underground. Regardless, we got lost and never found the restaurant that night.

The club lounge access was okay. Food was alright and for us, it was only good for filling up our water bottles as the tap in the room was room temp water but the lounge was ice cold water. Makes a difference when you're hot and sweaty. They wanted to charge our kids ages 12 and 14 $100 per person per day for lounge access which for what they offer, do not waste your money. Also, information is contradicting on ages allowed in the lounge. On the Westin website, under information for club lounge it indicated: *Please note that children below 12 years old are not permitted. However at check in, we were told that it is children 12 years AND BELOW are not permitted.

The pool though was really nice and if you are in the far corner, you can see the Singapore Flyer and at night you can see the back of the Spectra light show at Marina Bay Sands.

The only positive The Westin had going for them was their breakfast buffet at Seasonal Tastes. They had a wide selection of Western and Asian breakfast options including a noodle station that offered Laksa as well as rice and Nasi Lemak.

We made the mistake of eating at Cook & Brew one night as we were all too tired to go out for dinner and deeply regretted it. Don't do it. Don't waste your limited precious meals at C&B. It was the worst meal we had the entire time we were in Singapore and service was lackluster. You are in Singapore, go outside and walk 2 blocks and there are much better restaurant options. In fact, go underground to Marina Bay Link Mall a few minutes walk from the hotel and there are better choices there. Even Lau Pa Sat, the hawker center is a few minutes walk away if you don't mind the really touristy scene.

Given the location, this is likely a decent hotel for business travelers but certainly not for family leisure travel. There are better options in Singapore. Again, we expected better from The Westin brand and this location fell several rungs down the ladder. If this was a Courtyard Marriott, everything we've experienced would've been fine. You never want to stay at a hotel and have the feeling that you wished you stayed elsewhere. Unfortunately, The Westin Singapore gave us those vibes.
