Reviews
We had a little bumpy start to the check in but after resolving it very quickly; the staff ensured our stay was absolutely perfect.
Rooms are large with great views of the cathedral. Well equipped and supplied with daily water.
Breakfast selection is quite varied so you won’t get bored during a long stay.
Keep up the good work.
Even though we were only there for the weekend, Nils made such a lasting impression that we felt compelled to leave this review—something I’ve never done before. He exemplifies the Hilton’s commitment to excellence, and his professionalism and dedication are truly inspiring.
We couldn’t be more grateful for his efforts, and I genuinely believe he deserves recognition, a promotion, or even a raise. Nils is far more than just an employee—he’s an invaluable asset to your team.
Thank you for an incredible experience, and for hiring such outstanding individuals!
When we finally entered the room, we were disappointed to find that the windows were covered halfway with frosted paper, completely blocking the view. There was no scenery at all, which was very frustrating as we had booked a King Room.
Another major issue was the room temperature. It was extremely cold, fixed at 21°C, and there was no way to make it warmer. When we contacted the reception, they sent a radiator to the room. Honestly, I didn’t expect to rely on a radiator for warmth at a Hilton hotel.
Although the cleaning service was provided daily and seemed sufficient, it did not prevent the presence of dust mites in the room, which was unpleasant.
On a positive note, the breakfast was excellent. However, the overall experience fell far short of my expectations for a five-star hotel.
Our stay at Hilton Cologne was largely positive, with the room and amenities meeting our expectations. We stayed in a junior suite, which was spacious and well-maintained, with a comfortable bed and excellent water pressure. The room seems recently renovated, which added to the overall appeal. As we were traveling with our 11-month-old baby, the hotel thoughtfully provided a crib, which was a nice touch.
Breakfast:
The breakfast offering was exceptional, with a wide variety of choices and one of the best omelettes we've had (kudos to the chef!). It set a great tone for our mornings and was a highlight of our stay.
Service:
Most of the staff were friendly and accommodating, especially when interacting with our baby. However, we encountered a couple of service-related issues during our stay:
Example1: Incident During Breakfast (Friday, 22nd):
Near the entrance of the breakfast area, there is a children's bookshelf with wrapped gift empty boxes. My daughter was playing with the boxes and she held on to one and we went for a walk right outside the restaurant whilst my husband was still having his breakfast. At this point, the lady at manning the entrance approached us in a rushed manner, insisting that we return the box immediately and removed all the remaining boxes from the shelf.
I found this interaction to be unprofessional for several reasons:
1. The boxes were clearly placed in an area intended for children to interact with.
2. My daughter had been playing with them the day before without issue.
3. The staff member could have waited until we had finished and left the area before removing the boxes.
Example 2: Check-out Experience
On the morning of our check-out, we asked about the possibility of extending our checkout time, as our train wasn’t until 2:45 PM, and we are Platinum members. My husband approached the receptionist, but without checking availability, the receptionist immediately denied the request, stating that the latest checkout time was 1:00 PM. We then left the hotel and returned later to check with a different receptionist. This time, we were informed that the room was indeed available, and we were given an extended checkout time of 2:30 PM.
This inconsistency in service was disappointing, as we felt the first receptionist was unwilling to consider our request or check the availability of the room.
Conclusion:
While the majority of our stay was enjoyable and the hotel met our needs, these two service-related issues—an unpleasant interaction with staff at breakfast and inconsistent handling of our check-out request—have left us with a less favorable view of our experience. We hope that Hilton Cologne will address these concerns to ensure a more positive guest experience in the future.
The lobby is beautiful, the bar looked very nice and the staff were all super nice. I'm totally converted to Hiltons after this stay.
We were given a handicap-accessible room; however, it wasn't handicap-accessible. Neither myself nor my husband are disabled, but if we were, we still wouldn’t be able to access many of the functions in the room. Also, around 1:25 a.m., we experienced a leak in the ceiling, which caused us to change rooms. It was inconvenient, mainly because we had to catch a train at 9 am.
Overall, the staff were excellent and helpful! We may give the hotel another go due to the great staff.
The variety and quality of the breakfast buffet was very good.
We enjoyed the stay and plan to come back.
