Reviews
2. When requested a kettle to boil water, it took over two hours to arrive. After the water boiled it was all over the table and the mobile phone was nearby and became wet. The kettle had a four inch rip near the bottom and the sprout was broken.
3. The shower did not have a curtain or a glass enclosure. The water was everywhere on the floor.
4. The TV changer was not operating and the batteries were turning powdery white.
5. When management was informed, the excuses were worse than reality.
6. The word "Filoxenia" means to "Be a friend to someone foreign" or "Wecoming with Hospitality" well it wasn't so.
7. On the beach and pool NO LIFEGUARD WAS ON DUTY during any time of the day.
8.Lack of railings on the steps to the entrance of the hotel creates a health hazard.
The room was a bit old. Ventilation on the bathroom did not work. The worst part was the bed. It was extremely soft, and was creaking so much, we woke up when turning in the sleep.
What was not acceptable: The pool gutter is made of worn out plastic. I stepped on it, and it broke, which led to me falling and fracturing my toe! They need to fix and exchange the weathered plastic to metal.
The beach is lovely and the fact it's right by the hotel is a good selling point. The pool area is nice but looks like it will be busy in high season.
Overall, not a 4 star, definitely 3.
Here are the pros and cons:
Pros:
Lovely welcoming and really great people in the reception that makes you feel welcomed.
Great location. Super close to Kalamata town. There are busses too but driving is less than 10 minutes.
Plenty of parking in the hotel 24/7.
Great crowd. Other people were mostly families and really nice in general. Really liked the crowd there.
Ideal for families since majority of the people are families with kids.
Private beach. So important when you have a kid / kids.
There is a lifeguard on duty.
Garden rooms can be connected and garden rooms are so ideal for kids.
Free lunch for kids.
Really safe.
Cons:
Major safety issues like rusted nails, outdated and broken furnitures around. The hotel needs a major refurbishing. I understand it’s an older hotel but being old doesn’t mean being unattended. There are major upgrades that needs to be done.
For example (see photos) - the showers are beside the open electricity cables, some cables are out in the open. Rusted nails in the beach.
#### Slow Check-In Process
The first sign of trouble was the painfully slow check-in process. Despite having a prepaid reservation, I found myself waiting an inordinate amount of time to get to my room. The front desk staff seemed overwhelmed and disorganized, which only added to the frustration.
#### Dated and Unappealing Decor
Once I finally made it to my room, I was struck by how dated everything was. The furniture was old and mismatched, giving the room a disjointed and shabby appearance. The curtains were not only out of style but also visibly dirty, which was quite off-putting. The bathroom door to our room is so warped from water logging and does not close as the shower (over the bath) does not have a screen. The bathroom floor is saturated after a shower and is cause for a dangerous accident.
#### Poor Cleanliness
Cleanliness was a major issue throughout my stay. The tiles in both the room, bathroom and hallways were grimy, and it was clear they hadn’t been properly cleaned. The bathroom facilities were particularly disgusting, with mold in the shower and a general sense of neglect.
#### Misleading Online Photos
One of the most disappointing aspects of my stay is how misleading the hotel's online photos are. The website depicted a clean, modern, and inviting hotel, but the reality was the exact opposite. It felt like I was staying in a completely different place than what I had seen online.
#### Overpriced for the Quality
Given the state of the hotel, the price was exorbitant. I felt like I was paying premium rates for a budget-level experience. It was clear that the cost far exceeded the quality and service provided.
#### Final Thoughts
Overall, I would strongly advise against staying at Grecotel. The slow check-in process, outdated and mismatched furniture, dirty curtains and tiles, disgusting bathroom facilities, and misleading photos all contribute to a deeply disappointing experience. There are certainly better options available at this price point. Save your money and look elsewhere.
Advice: Don’t choose the dinner buffet but go to local ‘Tavernas’; Here you can eat delicious local, Greek food. Quality there is way better and for half the price. There are good Tavernas within 10 minutes from the hotel. Otherwise, for non-Greek food, go to the center and eat delicious and cozy
First we arrived with our road bikes and asked for a place to put them. They said that this is not in the agreement! So we had to leave them outdoors.
In the evening after returning from our dinner we asked for a coffee and a dessert. They said that on order to have a dessert we had to pay 30 euros for the whole buffet.
Last but not least, next day after the check out a really rude staff member gave ad the f word for no actual reason after one of our co guests complained for delaying at the hotel reception.
I heard him saying this myself and asked to talk to the manager. When i met the manager and complained instead of having the guy ask for an apology he told me that it's unlikely that his staff sweared.
Keep away from this hotel. Bad manners to say the least!
