Reviews
LOCATION
• Can't get better, vibrant street and moments from everything you must visit
• But still an oasis of calm from the tourists
DECOR
• Wonderful mix of original architecture, antique furniture, modern touches and art. The gold foil textured reception desk is simply gorgeous!
• Our room on the 3/4 floor was tastefully luxurious with an amazing bathroom and a view you can't beat !
• The bar, restaurant, breakfast room all unique. Don't miss the roof terrace!
STAFF
• Nothing is perfect and I'm very picky so it's down to how a “bump” is handled that means the most to me. The entire team here takes ownership and sorts things promptly and professionally.
• Bar and breakfast staff were wonderful and friendly.
• Front desk staff are also extremely helpful in booking dining, tours and getting tickets.
Location. Fantastic location. Incredible! Right off the main square. If all you care about is location this hotel is a winner!
Now the negatives.
We booked the most basic room. It was so small you couldn’t swing a cat. For some unusual reason they decide to fill these tiny rooms with unnecessary and un-useful furniture dating back to the 1600s, so there is literally is no room at all. We couldn’t open our cases for our duration due to lack of space. Even though the weather was mild and not hot, the room temperature and humidity was disgusting like a Turkish sauna. The AC in the hotel does not work properly and was told some shabby excuses. THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR A FIVE STAR HOTEL NOT TO HAVE WORKING AC. You could not open the window in the hotel rooms because it’s so central and so loud below, so there is no winning there either. If there is any chance you could become claustrophobic then this hotel will get you to that level. After numerous complaints to the hotel reception they kindly moved us rooms which was still small but not as hot and stuffy. They showed us one of their ‘superior’ rooms, which was not much more of a step up from the most basic rooms, so be warned. Breakfast. Tinned fruit. And the only fresh fruit was pineapple, which had been left out so long it had gone brown. The bacon was brown/green. It was probably the worst breakfast I’ve seen in a hotel. We stuck to toast with butter for 3 days. Coffee was good though when we got it. Day 1 they forgot to bring it. The hotel was very dated and dark and gloomy, but it was probably the best hotel in Florence 300 years ago. This hotel should be a 3 star rather than 5. Shocked how it is a 5 star. Writing this review from a wonderful 4 star hotel in Bologna (hotel corona d’oro) which we will shortly review.
The best location for sightseeing with no need of transport.
Extremely warm and welcoming staff!
Strongly recommend!
