Reviews
Hotel accepting dogs and local restaurants accepting dogs but being kind to them too.
What I don't understand is why to charge for the dog while our dogs doesn't lose hair and he's hypo-allergenic.
Upon entering the hotel through the two large automatic doors, you’re greeted by a lovely lobby. The reception is to the left, elevators to the rooms are on the right, and the hotel’s restaurant-bar, Novo, is diagonally to the right. I’ve reviewed Novo separately. Beyond Novo, there’s a restaurant used for breakfast and group meals. These areas are adequate. The furniture is generally quite old, but the space is airy due to the high windows.
Speaking of breakfast, if you get a discount, the buffet is €23 per person, but it’s so sparse and limited that calling it a buffet is misleading. It’s shocking to find such a poor breakfast at a four-star hotel. Given that it’s an international hotel, the breakfast should cater to all guests, including Muslims and Jews, who might find it challenging.
As for the hotel rooms, the beds were clean with no stains when we checked under the sheets. The pillows, however, felt like they only had pillowcases. The room furniture was very old. The bathroom seemed ancient, and it was difficult to sit properly on the toilet because the space between the wall and the toilet was so narrow that only a child could fit comfortably.
The staff, in general, were good and friendly. The Asian staff, in particular, were excellent and very professional, always smiling, which is crucial in this industry. The other staff seemed to be doing it begrudgingly. I also stayed at the Novotel in Munich and reviewed it. It was significantly better in every aspect compared to this one.
Would I stay at the Düsseldorf Novotel West again? Not unless I had no other choice.
Room is old but ok for sleep.
Some(A lot) of the staff were very rude and unfriendly.
Room service always messes up customers' things and doesn't clean up.
Firstly, the bedding provided felt outdated and was uncomfortably small, suggesting a need to upgrade to super single-sized beds for enhanced comfort. Miserable pillow was provided one on each single bed. Overall the room feels like a 3 star rated hotel!
Additionally, the scarcity of plug points proved inconvenient, and their placement far from the bed was not user-friendly.
The shower area in the toilet was another concern; it was not only cramped but also retained an old-fashioned design that did not meet modern standards.
These aspects of the room highlighted a significant need for a major refurbishment throughout the hotel to ensure that the amenities meet the expectations of contemporary travelers.
In conclusion, while the hotel boasts a promising location, the physical comforts and conveniences do not align with the Novotel brand’s reputation. Comprehensive modernization would be beneficial in elevating the guest experience to the esteemed Novotel standard.
However, when I mentioned about this, very kind lady at the reception offered me free parking, this helped me reduce my back pain :)
-the ventilation in the bathroom doesn't work and the carpets in the rooms and in the lobby need a major renewal if you ask me.
-the breakfast was sort of okay, but should be fantastic for a work oriented hotel, it's basically the one of the things that people prefer a hotel for, shouldn't be that hard. Some things were good, but for example scrambled and boiled eggs were overcooked, and the sunny side up version had a heavy smell due to the cooking oil that's been used. I prefer good old butter, shouldn't be that hard really, or a neutral oil that doesn't smell also fine. Also there was no proper coffee machine, I don't like pre-prepared light coffee in the morning that comes into my table that sort of tastes in the tea category. I have seen the proper coffee machines in other sections, just bring in a machine into the breakfast area, I don't mind not being served coffee on my table, prefer doing it in my own way.
