Hotel Alsterblick in Hamburg

Visiting Hamburg on business every November for the past years, this is probably one of the worst experiences. A substandard room named as “superior” located on the back side of the building’s ground floor. The justification from the reception girl was that I should have let them know in advance I wanted a bigger superior room….There was almost no heating and the humidity would turn clothes, sheets and towels dump every day. Bed was also very uncomfortable. The room door would not close properly and the noise from people outside the room was very loud in at least 2 of the 5 days I stayed there. Upon checkout I was wrongly charged an extra night despite a booking voucher demonstrating I shouldn’t be charged extra-I hope for a refund. Small water bottles (250 ml or so) in the mini bar were charged for 2 euro and cleaning service was quite substandard. Last night my room card was deactivated but at 12.00 midnight no one was available to assist except the cook (he answered when I called the hotel number) who unfortunately didn’t t speak english (but he managed to reactivate my room card though). All in all, I will NEVER book there again.

Avoid this hotel: Terrible service, mediocre breakfast, and wildly overpriced.

The room was nice and the location is good, but for this price range the service was completely unacceptable

Examples (there’s more):
- Staff was curt and uninterested in helping to book a breakfast table, find or reserve a parking spot, or anything else that didn’t involve checking us in or out
- Breakfast is served in the cellar, it’s cramped, dark, and sports a shelf of milk jugs with crusty rings (among other things)
- Room service entered early in the morning without knocking (!), then later restocked the minibar but left dirty cups
