The Excelsior Hotel in Cologne is a masterpiece of modern luxury and style. Located directly across from the iconic Cologne Cathedral, the views are simply breathtaking. The sleek, chic design of the interiors, combined with spacious, impeccably clean rooms and premium amenities, ensures a comfortable and elegant stay. Dining is exceptional, with a gourmet restaurant and a sophisticated bar perfect for unwinding. The service is outstanding, with staff going above and beyond to make every moment unforgettable. Ideal for exploring Cologne or enjoying a luxurious retreat, this hotel is an absolute must-visit. Highly recommended!

One of my favorite places to stay in Europe. Old school attention to detail and high "guest conscious" service levels. A genuine pleasure within walking distance to my Köln go-to destinations.

We made a reservation for a family holiday for 5 rooms. The hotel send us an invoice and email with a payment request by insecure transfers. The hotel email got hacked and intercepted and forwarded with a fraudulent account. We lost an amount of over, 2500euro because of the hotel insecure payment request. Nevertheless, I understand that Cyber Crime is sophisticated these days. BUT the reaction and action of the hotel reservations manager was horrible. No feedback for days, no call, no any sign of compassion or even plain sympathy. We lost an amount of 2500euro due to their insecure system and hacking. The management does not care about the client, heartless and cold and not any sign of assistance, compensation. Not even a phone call of the manager. This is not the service you would expect at a 5* hotel at all. It's plain unprofessional, impolite and rude. We don't recommend this hotel.

I have been staying at the Excelsior for over 30 years. It is always a pleasure. The service is excellent. The rooms are beautiful. The breakfast is memorable. The location is perfect. (next to the Cathedral) I look forward to my next visit. Thank you to Joseph and the wonderful staff for making my stay wonderful.

Visited Koln with family. This hotel is perfect in so many ways. Everything they do is elegant and efficient. The staff always smiled and spoke very good English. It sits directly across and basically in the shadow of the Cathedral and train station. Great location.

Stayed here for over a week in a Junior Suite. All our expectations were exceeded. The hotel felt comfortable and staff were lovely. The room was spacious and clean. The food in the bar and restaurant were very good although quite expensive. The location is as good as it gets in Cologne - right next to the train station and in front of the cathedral.
A negative was that the in-house Michelin restaurant was closed during the stay and some members of staff didn’t know about it. There was also a lot of private chatting among the staff in the bar and one member was occasionally swearing under his breath - obviously not in itself a problem but the layout of the bar made it impossible to ignore and made service feel a little less professional.
Overall, a very positive experience and if you ignore the high prices for food, the price for value was excellent. We will definitely return.

I stayed at Excelsior Hotel Ernst in June 2024. The hotel location is excellent, the rooms are comfortable, and the amenities are good. However, during my stay, there was a celebrity present at the hotel, though I am unsure who it was.
One evening, while I was in the lobby, a staff member, who I believe was either the night manager or the security manager, approached me aggressively and demanded that I leave the area. Despite informing him that I was a guest of the hotel, he continued to insist in a loud and rude manner that I leave. His behavior was incredibly unprofessional and disrespectful.
I travel frequently around the world and have never encountered such a rude, arrogant, and disrespectful individual. His conduct was not only offensive but also detrimental to the hotel's reputation. It was clear that he was trying to assert his authority in front of his team, but his actions were completely unacceptable.
While I enjoyed the hotel itself, I will not be returning due to this negative experience with the staff member. His behavior left a lasting negative impression, and I believe it reflects poorly on the hotel's service standards.

Just stayed here two nights. Had a great time. The staff is top notch. Everyone is super friendly.
Location is great. You can walk to everything not to mention it's 100m to the Dom.
Room was excellent, clean. Nice amenities. The walk in shower with the rain shower head was great. Water gets super hot and greater water pressure.
Also treat yourself to the chocolates!

I had high expectations for Excelsior Hotel Ernst, but it did not live up to the expectations I had from the previous reviews.
Room: We were in Room 230, which was pretty nice. The minibar had good options for us. We were thankful for the water! However, there were black stains on the carpet next to the bed. The view from the room was nothing special, but we did not buy the best room so that is not a ding.
Service: This is where the hotel lacked. First, I do want to say the reception desk was great and quick with their paperwork. The bar staff was also pretty good, though we did not have much interaction other than order drinks. I tried to go to the gym in the morning, but it was not open. It was during the open hours on the door, so I did not know why. Breakfast was the worst part. We went down to the dining room where no one was at the reception to seat us. We stood there for a few minutes until we just seated ourselves. The server we had seemed like he was the only one working. We were not told to get food and when I asked for coffee, the server said they did not have any. We got some yogurt from the buffet but had to wait nearly 20 minutes to order. We had to waive the server down to get his attention. This is just not what I expected from a hotel of this stature.

This is a beautiful property, with a mix of classical design and modern touches throughout. Location is excellent. Each member of the staff is very attentive. We originally reserved a suite for a week at a neighboring hotel. A friend was visiting the Excelsior and invited us for a drink at the bar. Henrik the bartender was our first real introduction to the property. He was very passionate about the hotel and the beautiful bar area. We enjoyed the public areas and ultimately decided to move from our modern waterfront hotel to this one. We stayed for a week and enjoyed every aspect of the hotel.
Storage in the room is a little sparse, especially for longer stays. The electric outlets did not work well with the international adapters we were using. The furniture is beautiful but had a couple jagged edges. Besides those minor niggles, this made for a wonderful home base while visiting Cologne.
