Best Western Plus Nice Cosy Hotel

Second time in this hotel and again terrible experience:
- The room smelled with smoke (the staff refused to change the room citing lack of availability)
- impossible to shower as the water could only be either ice cold or extremely hot (due to some issue with the shower)

On the positive note, the staff, when asked, provided a knife and a bottle opener

Extremely disappointing stay. Bathroom door handle broken. Stayed for two nights and had to ask multiple times for fresh towels. We requested an iron only to be completely ignored. Paid 200£ per night and were met with arrogant staff. Pictures on Booking.com are quite deceptive. Best to avoid.

Really disappointing experience from a big name hotel chain. Never in all my years of travel have I been charged to store baggage. Yes, our booking was in the future (we were hiking for 4 days prior) but surely a hotel of this stature would look after their guests - current or future!. Then the second insult, after paying 40 euros for two medium size bags to sit and collect dust my friend asked to us the bathroom: "Sorry, bathrooms are for hotel guests only"! Seriously, Best Western! Even random hotels have let us use the toilet if requested politely!

You can hear every word from the room next door. The hallways are extremely loud as well. The location is ok. I should have stayed closer to the main part of town. Don’t stay here. There are a lot of better options.

I want to complain to the front desk "Tony" of this hotel. He racially discriminated against us and insulted and threatened us. Yesterday when we checked in, we paid all the fees, including taxes. He asked us for a credit card, which was in my boyfriend's hand at the time, and he went to the parking lot. I asked this man if we could stay because we had already paid all the fees, and he said everything was fine. Then today he asked my friend for the credit card again. We were very tired and wanted to go downstairs to get it when we went to the restaurant, but after five minutes, he rushed to the door of our room, slammed the door angrily, threatened us to get out, and insulted us, saying that he would call the police. And he kept yelling rudely and didn't let us talk. His attitude towards us was very different from that towards guests from other countries. I am very sure that he is a racist and he doesn't know how to treat guests with respect and kindness. We were very angry and we also called the police. The efficiency of the French police is also very low. We waited for two hours and no one came. We are tourists who came to France because of the Olympic Games. Because of this hotel, my impression of France is very, very bad, and we will never come to this country again. I don't understand why people from the host country of the Olympic Games are so discriminatory and unreasonable to tourists. I will email this information to the French Tourism Board and the Nice Tourism Board to express our disappointment.

We stayed at this hotel for a week while exploring Cote d’Azur. While the staff are pleasant and the location very convenient for the public transport, we’ve encountered major issues with our room.
The room was ok size wise, but the bathroom was tiny and badly designed. Our one in particular was mouldy - black specks of mould on the ceiling and on the shower walls. The towel hooks kept coming away from the walls because they were stuck on with adhesive instead of being properly secured. Shower doors were slightly misaligned resulting in a risk of flooding to the bathroom whenever I showered. The main bedroom itself had a slightly damp smell and the aircon unit didn’t work, so we were left having to open the window frequently, in November’s chilly weather.
Decoration wise, the rooms are well appointed, but ours again was somewhat dirty - there were stains on the walls from where things had been spilled against the soundproofing wall coverings, the main mirror had specks of dust on it etc. As it turns out, their housekeeping are so short-staffed that regularly our room would not be made up until 4pm or so and I’d have to go down to reception and request to have it done up. Even then, because everyone on the maintenance team seems to be overstretched, the room would just not get cleaned well (used cups not replaced, bathroom sink left dirty, surfaces not wiped down etc). The wi-fi was fine, the lobby nice enough. The lift is tiny and just big enough to fit two people with luggage or a parent with a small pushchair. We did not partake in breakfast. While the hotel is rated 4*, it definitely did not feel like a genuine 4* experience. Overall I’d not stay there again.
