The golden bay hotel in Malia is the perfect place for summer holiday. The area is very calm even though you are just minutes of walking away from the center of Malia and the views from the balcony and the pool are stunning, overlooking the hills of Crete. The walk to the beach is also something to be happy about, because is just few minutes away and the beach is clean with beautiful sea. The rooms were perfectly satisfactory, everything worked, the bed was comfortable and there were utensils and silverware you need. I would especially recommend paying few euro for the air conditioning, it worked perfectly and during the hot summer months it was a life saver. Another thing that was great was the breakfast, good selection of sweet and salty foods, but the drinks could be better, the juices were too sweet for me and there was no water, but other than that the breakfast was great. The staff is very friendly and willing to help if needed. In summary there was nothing wrong with our stay. I would highly recommend visiting if you’re planning a trip to Malia.

First time staying at Golden Bay, but me and my partner could not be happier. Great location very close to beaches and Malia *****, but also in a quiet area, so you can properly rest! Lovely room with sea view, which was big and had all we needed! House keeping was literally everyday! The host, Akis was really helpful and friendly! We would love to come back!

Several of us attending a conference nearby at the Cretaquarium stayed here for several nights. What struck me first was the view. It was pretty cool to step outside of my room, either through my front door, or from the corner of my deck, and see the Mediterranean Sea. The deck also faced inward toward the rest of the layout, so I really got a good look at all of the hotel. As others have noted, the staff here is very friendly and works hard to provide a nice experience. Rania found us a couple of rental cars. The rental company actually brought the cars to the hotel. The first night there we sat outside in the restaurant and shared several plates of food and a few drinks and have a great evening. We caught a great sunset, too. It can be a bit difficult to find at first, but the adventure is worth it. Take a walk down the street to check out the other restaurants and shops and enjoy the proximity to the ocean. I'd stay here again if I were to ever get back to Crete.

The Golden Bee Lifestyle Hotel is a very pleasant, intimate hotel where you can relax by the pool overlooking the sea, the beach is right next to it after walking a few meters along the promenade. The biggest plus is the friendly service, you can feel real Greek kindness here, we recommend a room with direct access to your own swimming pool, the room is very nice, boho style, air-conditioned, it only lacks a wardrobe to hide your belongings. The room was thoroughly cleaned every day. When it comes to food, we usually only managed to take advantage of breakfasts, which were always the same, you could find something for yourself but they definitely lacked a bit to describe excellent, as for the drinks offer in the all inclusive option, there are cold and hot drinks available and from alcohols beer, wine and ouzo the rest is payable extra. Personally, I recommend this Hotel, where you could truly relax because it is located in a quieter part of the city. I greet all the staff for your kindness that made our stay more pleasant

Beautiful hotel Didn't realize it was a 4* as we got a good deal.my word we were so surprised by the attentiveness of the staff in each area.The cleaners were second to none and worked long hours and came in everyday. Bar staff were so happy and really went out of their way to make your stay a lovely one. Also Penelope and Maria in the tarverna were beautiful girls and nothing was too much trouble for them. Such a friendly hotel and one of the best we've stayed in in 18yrs quiet friendly and relaxing. I hope the owner of this hotel knows how super his staff and hotel are and we will definitely be coming back. Overall not one complaint everything was A* from start to finish Thank you Golden Bay xxxxx

This has been upgraded to a really good family hotel apartments place with charming and friendly staff who really go out of their way to be pleasant and give good service. There is constant and late hours bar service with kitchen service food on demand. The only downside - unless you want a quieter holiday - is the position in Gouves. There is a small but popular pool and they put on entertainment sometimes. The tourist spots are a ride away and the nearest decent beach a short walk. There are mini marts close enough but if you want the high life, you need to hire transport or use the buses.

Had a wonderful week at the Golden Bay hotel. Would recommend if you want a quiet week chilling. Lovely rooms most with pool view. Excellent staff that look after you well. Nothing is too much trouble for them. Lovely pool (new sunbeds where delivered on our first day). Hotel is on the seafront with great views of the bay. We went Half board. Breakfast was really nice. Lots of choice. The evening meal was waiter service and was freshly prepared and you had a good choice. Overall thoroughly good stay and would go back.

A short summary for those who don't want to read the whole thing: the hotel is lovely, located nearby a lively centre. The beach is a little bit further than said. No noise complaints whatsoever, the people are super friendly and the one-room apartments are big enough for two people. The matresses are a little hard and the shower is small. Kitchen is adviced not to be used for dinner. A/C is quite expensive but necessary, so is the safe. The breakfast at the pool-bar is lovely. The hotel is good for kids, however the area is not. It's a very nice place to go for people of 18 years old and above. I stayed at this hotel for 8 days, from the 19th of June to the 26th of June. The hotel is situated in a way that you don't suffer from any noise of the town nearby even though it's really easy to walk straight into the busy streets. The information says the beach is 150 meters from the hotel, which I guess is correct if you drew a straight line from the hotel to the beach. However, because of the paths you're supposed to walk towards the beach, it's a bit longer. It's still quite close though, and easy to go to, even in the hot sun. We had the room closest to the reception, but never suffered from any noise from other guests, or from the hotel Triton which I've read about in other reviews (ofcourse neither are completely silent, but noise which is made is not an issue). The family that runs the hotel is very nice, and always willing to help you out and serve you, or even just have a chat. They're very welcome and relaxed and don't rush you into paying for anything, as long as you pay for it eventually. We had a one-room apartment, which was in our believe big enough for two people. I saw some other reviews complaining that the one-room apartments were too small, but this was in our opinion not the case. There was a kitchen which was good enough to make lunch or breakfast on, I would recommend just going out to eat somewhere for dinner however instead of cooking dinner at the kitchen. There were two seperate beds, which I must admit had some pretty hard matresses, and a big closet. There was a seperate bathroom with a toilet, a sink with a mirror and a shower. The shower is a little small, and you have the choice of either getting the floor wet, or having the shower curtain stick to your body sometimes. I would advice the hotel to replace the shower curtains, our curtain had orange stains on it. The price for air-conditioning is 6€ a day, which is pretty much but split in two, it was managable. The price for a safe is 25€ a week. I would recommend getting both, because even though it's a lot, without either you wouldn't survive in your own room. The cleaning lady comes every day, around noon and the hotel isn't responsible for loss of items. I'm not saying that the cleaning lady is not to be trusted, but they don't put that disclaimer there for no reason. The AC is obviously needed to keep you from melting. We visited Golden Bay today. It was brilliant but the highlight had to be the trip on Charlie's boat to the cace that turns your skin blue! Charlie is so funny and enthusiastic it's his mission to make sure you enjoy yourself and we certainly did! We had a great trip out in his very speedy sped boat and a twenty minute swim in the lagoon which was awesome! All for €12, fantastic!
