Wombat's City Hostel Budapest

I have very mixed feelings about this hostel, the location is the best one you can ask for, right in the middle of everything and next to some very nice bars and restaurants. Nora, the girl working at admission is a ray of sunshine, super nice and helpful. Daniel, who works at the bar is also a very friendly person, super nice. The common area would be a very cool place if someone actually used it, but the hostel in general misses some ambience, they don’t organize any activity and the vibe is really off. It makes it super hard to meet people, especially if you’re a solo traveler. The rooms are kind of disgusting, they are dirty, the hairdryer doesn’t work, the outlet to charge the phone didn’t work (luckily Nora was kind enough to let me charge my phone in the reception). the bathroom smells so bad that I basically had to use the one in the lobby for my entire stay, the cleaning ladies idea of cleaning is just throwing water from a bucket on the floor and let it dry. I think the place is still open just because of the nice young girls and guys who work there. Definitely room for improvement.

This hostel felt more like a hotel in that everything felt very sterile and clean. For me it was hard to imagine hanging out in the social areas and meeting people since it felt very corporate but I was there for the F1 weekend so I did not have much time to hang out. The room was clean, and it was first come first serve to pick which bed you wanted. The bathroom was clean but it didn’t have any hand soap provided which was very frustrating. There was body soap provided in the shower so I used that, but it seems weird to expect us to either not use soap or provide our own while traveling at a hostel budget. Both nights that I inquired, they had ran out of towels so I was not able to have a towel during my whole stay which was incredibly frustrating. I don’t understand how they cannot have enough towels for the whole hostel. Especially at the price and with having to pay extra to rent a towel I expected them to have enough. This really just put a damper on my whole stay. The location is good and there are some very good food options nearby, and it is also close to public transit stations. The AC works in the rooms, but it is not cold like you might expect just not hot. Overall it was a fine hostel stay and it was clean and safe, I just expected more for the price I paid.

Good place, nice location. Very big hostel so it's hard to make friends as everyone kinda just groups up from their rooms. I noticed the cleaner didn't change the sheets or swap duvets, each time someone new was to come stay in the room they'd brush the sheet off and refold the Duvet, didn't replace anything, wonder how many people's sweat in summer is just brewing on these linen. Staff were friendly though
