Reviews
The only problem we had was the temperature in our room. We were there in late July, and the outside temperatures were in the range of 30˚-40˚C. On the 4th floor, it was just miserable, and on that first night, they did not have enough fans to distribute, so we could not get one. The next night, however, we were kindly moved into a (much upgraded) room on the 2nd floor, and it was pleasant enough for sleeping, even if not quite as cool as we would have liked.
I would recommend staying here, but only during cooler months where the air conditioning would not be an issue.
The AC in the room barely kept the place cool. We had no cold water pressure and each time the water ran, whether from the sink or toilet, there was a squeal from the pipes within the wall for almost 10 minutes…each time!!!
Numerous electrical outlets in the room didn’t work either.
The hotel is about a 6 min walk to the Duomo, and there are lots of restaurants and shops around the hotel.
We had a room on the 4th Floor, which unfortunately faced the construction happening on the right of the hotel. Room was big enough for the 3 of who stayed. The room could do with some TLC, but didn’t spoil our stay in the hotel.
An extra touch we appreciated was the free mini bar, which was replenished everyday. It included 4 fizzy drinks, 2 still and 2 sparkling waters, 2 small bottles of juices, a biscuit and peanuts. We did request not having sparkling water but still instead, but this request was never carried out.
Breakfast for us, being vegetarian was fine but would have loved some hot food provide. They only had scrambled eggs (which we don’t eat) and sausages. They had a big selection of pastries, breads, teas, coffees, juices, fruits the list goes on!
The breakfast room is located on the 5th floor and had wonderful views of the skyline of Florence. You have to get there quick to get the best tables next to the windows.
They also provide to go breakfast for those who have early starts for tours. They provide plenty of food. The only issue we had with this is that we requested a veggie bag with no eggs and they provide us with a ham sandwich and eggs! But it was ok as there was plenty to keep us full to lunch.
All staff at the hotel, always so nice and friendly.
I would definitely stay at the Grand Hotel Baglioni if I were to come back to Florence.
One is the WiFi is non existent, constantly drops or is so slow pages take over a minute to load. This isn’t ideal for those of us without a euro SIM card/ international data plan. I did have an international data plan so I ate up a lot of it due to the poor WiFi.
Second is the location is very lively, all night you hear cars, trucks reversing with the beeping, people arguing in the street sounding like a fight is about to break out, etc. if you are a light sleeper this will keep you up at night, the noise is constant, I’m writing this at 1:44am and I can hear a scooter with a man talking right outside (I’m on the 4th floor).
3rd there’s no tissues for your nose, it made it very hard to use tissues for either my nose or wiping my makeup off a brush I was using.
4th no wash cloths to use to wash your body, and the toilet paper is incredibly rough on your skin.
The hotel itself is a dark setting, Im a bright natural light person. The right side of hotel is centralized to many site seeing locations 10 - 20 minute walks or take the Train to Tuscany as we did last, the station is a 5 min walk then a bus ride (get your ti let first) and another 5 min walk to Leaning tower of Pisa.
I do love an antique vintage setting, it’s the main reason I choose this hotel it’s nice to see some art on the walls as you enter the elevator. It’s secure in a sense of only key holders can go up the hotel elevator love this feature.
I asked for a view room which I did get just be ready for some street noise if you open your windows.
I requested a few modifications for health purposes and the staff immediately rectified it. I really appreciate this as it made my experience so much better. Thank you to the room staff once again so pleasant and always with a smile on their face.
Perfect location, just in front of the station (but very quiet, and my room was super quiet, as I desired).
Mattress are very modern and comfort (the right equilibrium to embrace the body). I slept very well. My room was simple (classic) but with everything I needed to work in peace and sleep nicely (also I requested a room in a quiet position, and with the bathtub - they put me in the perfect room for me).
I tried the amazing rooftop bar (it is the best to look all around Florence).
I am so looking forward to coming back!!!!
thank you so much!!!!!!!!!
