Reviews
However, if location is your top priority, it's definitely a good choice.
I hope this helps.
Towels, soap—everything was provided.
In the morning, there was a buffet breakfast, quite decent: cheese, yogurt, ham, boiled eggs, and fresh pastries.
Of course, it's a 3-star hotel, and the condition of the furniture and the room itself corresponds, but we got everything we needed, and I'm very happy with our overnight stay.
I am not opposed to staying in slightly dated or older hotels and properties, and will often chance it on mixed reviewed hotels.
However, this time our choice was a mistake. Situated in what appears to be a building site and sharing the building (and elevator) with two other hotels, I cannot in good conscience recommend Hotel Milo to any one. The reception is on the first floor and some of the staff were rude when we came to collect our key.
The aforementioned elevator is a ratchety old thing with barely enough room for one traveller, let alone one with luggage. There is also a weight limit of 200kg. This would be fine if not for the fact the rooms appeared to be on the fifth and sixth floors. Ours were on the fifth floor and well over 100 steps up a decaying and dated building. There were parts where there were chunks of wall missing.
Our room was small and dated, which wasn't a problem. What was problematic and unsafe were the exposed wires in the shower, which also leaked outside the shower and onto the walls. The mattresses were comfortable but their bases were wobbly and felt like they could tip you if you so much as breathed in the wrong direction. Adding to this was the fact that you could hear every movement outside our door. The doors locked with a key and the location made us feel so unsafe that it has been the only hotel where we kept the key in the door after we locked it.
The only positive this hotel has is its location which is five minutes from Roma Termini and about a 20 minute walk to the Colosseum. However, there are better hotels nearby.
I genuinely have no idea how this place managed to get to 3 stars. We ended up skipping our second night to stay in a four star hotel nearby and the difference was night and day.
Please consider other options if you are looking for a hotel in this area.
We thought given the mix of reviews, it would be ok... We're not opposed to a less than glamorous setting. But frankly I've never stayed in a worse place!
However, the entrance to the hotel was like a building site. The building the hotel is housed in is a bizzare mix of two and three star hotels. The reception staff were abrupt at best (rude at points).
The reception is on the fist floor, past the metal shed and cordoned off building site. The rooms however are on the fith or sixth floor. The lift has a limit of 200kgs and there's not enough room to swing the proverbial cat.
137 steps later we reached the room. It was small (not a problem) and had a door which was a challenge to lock (more of a problem). However, the piece de resistance was the bathroom. Exposed wiring in the shower, which when turned on sprayed water all over the bathroom. This was apparently not a problem!
After a poor night's sleep, where one of the beds tipped over and frankly, ejected its occupant who dared to turn over (resulting in a badly bruised knee), being able to hear everything in the corridor and neighbouring rooms we decided to skip breakfast and find new rooms for our second night in Rome.
Cozy and welcoming.
The staff is attentive and quickly responds to requests.
It was hot in July, but the air conditioner worked properly, despite its age, it coped.
There was always hot water, towels were changed and the room was cleaned every day.
I would also like to note the fresh breakfasts, it is especially nice to have breakfast on the veranda.
