Hotel Romanico Palace

I booked this hotel because it advertises a pool with several pictures. When I checked in with my 6 yr old (who I had told would get to go swimming). They said the pool was only for adults and that there was a 75 Euro charge per day to use the ‘spa facilities’ I.e. the pool. Non of this information was available when I booked it, and I would have chosen a different hotel entirely if it had been. Also…no towels in bathroom. You get ‘cloth napkins’. I’ve stayed in many many hotels in Europe and Italy and this is the first time I’ve seen anything like this. I’ve now spent multiple hours with my credit card company and long distance phone calls trying to remedy this situation to no avail. Don’t stay here!

Well what a disappointment, the write up about the hotel is so wrong. When we arrived we got to check in there was a man waiting to take our bags ,or so we thought. We filled in forms for check in, then we're told the way to go. So no help with luggage got to our room wow it was not the best smallest room I've ever stayed in, nothing like the photos or write up. There was a kettle and 2 cups, however no tea or coffe??? So as we only have 4 days here we wanted to get out and about. The hotel was booked for the location. We had a lovely afternoon at the Spanish steps had a lovely late lunch, back to the hotel we thought a drink before we went to our room. We waited for about 10 minutes and not a sole anywhere. Just went. We looked at the prices of using the infinity pool €100. for 2 hours, spa €45 per person with no treatment just facilities. Prosecco in room €50, champagne €100, chocolates £25, and a cake €50 Anyway had a lovely evening out in a local restaurant. Following morning breakfast. What a joke, cooked breakfast considered of bacon and scrambled eggs. That were not hot. The rest was low grade cold meat , cheese. Yoghurt and fruit, pastrys There was serial but no oat or almond milk, so I couldn't have that, There was a menu, that you could order from , at a price. Build eggs €3, Smoked salmon and eggs, €10 there was a few things eggs benadict, or Royal, all around €10. There was a good selection of tea, but the water was luke warm . so get some bags and take back to your room with you. This place is a total rip off, no atmosphere at all. After a day or so, I was in the room and you could see thick dust above the lights, and the picture rail. Up to eye level was clean, it was the same in the shower, top tiles black in-between tiles on the grout the lower level was fine. We just decided to make the most of it. The following day was mu 60th birthday, we had a fabulous day out at the Vatican, in the evening found a lovely high end bar around the corner it was fantastic, great service Cafe & restaurant Doney and very reasonable. The hotel Romanico Palace could really learn a thing or two from them, that's what you call superior. On a positive note, there was one member of staff who booked a taxi for us, he was so helpful . So thank you to him. Do a bit of research before you book, I'm home now and feel very disappointed with my time at this hotel especially when it was a big birthday celebrations.

This hotel is definitely not four stars as advertised. The rooms are very basic and lack amenities typically offered at a four star hotel such as irons for clothing, coffee/tea kettle, and upgraded linens as the ones they provide are thin and dingy. The hotel is old but that isn’t an issue. If they invested some money in the amenities this would be worth the money. The rooftop is nice but not accessible at all during the day and the drinks are incredibly expensive! The location is okay, it is a 15-20 minute walk to the center of Rome which is where we spent most of our time but it is much quieter here because it is a little off the beaten path.
