The service felt cold. Maybe the customers who are paying cash get warmer treatment, but as someone who has stayed at true 5-star establishments across Asia, Africa, and elsewhere, the service here left me disappointed. Upon check-in, our room wasn't ready—which isn't a problem at all—but when they said they would call us when the room was ready, my husband asked if they could "WhatsApp" us instead. The employee's immediate response was, "No, we cannot," which left me wondering, What do you do if someone doesn't have a working number? Considering that a concierge in Turkey once helped me figure out a phone mishap by calling the phone company to fix the issue, a five-star hotel cannot accommodate another means of communication?
Additionally, the hallways and rooms of this establishment felt more similar to a business conference hotel. Maybe the other floors have some decor, but as we were ceremoniously placed on the 1st or "2nd" floor, the hallway to our room was completely bare besides red carpet. Furthermore, the room we had was nice in size, especially since we had a toddler, but it felt bare with only the minimum: a bed, two chairs, and a desk. The amenity situation was also lacking for a 5-star establishment.
I would say the positives are: they provided a pack and play that was actually set up, and a pillow and blanket were provided, which was a nice touch. My husband said the bar had good service and drinks.
The hallways are wide and spacious, giving the hotel a more upscale feel. A fun detail: each room has its own doorbell!
Breakfast was included and was excellent — a full buffet, much better than what you typically get at U.S. Best Westerns or even at the Courtyard in Munich, which charged €26 for something less impressive.
Staff were super friendly and helpful. The bellhop and valet gave great local tips and delivered our bags quickly (and rang the room doorbells!).
My only gripe is the AC in Europe is not like the AC in states. I don’t mind keeping my room warmer 73-74, but if you need it at 65 you’re likely gonna be miserable, probably best not to come to Europe during the summer if you need it cold. We had ours cranked down all the way and it was still warm.
Highly recommend — great value, spacious rooms, and a few thoughtful touches that made our stay extra enjoyable.
I stayed in a deluxe room, which was quite spacious, had a sofa, and was quiet and comfortable. However, the air conditioning blew cold air constantly, making long sleeves and long pants necessary at night, even on days when the temperature exceeded 30°C during the day. I reported this to the front desk and they said they had sent a technician to fix it, but it was still cold. I was also surprised that, despite being a five-star hotel, the hotel only provided conditioning shampoo instead of shampoo and conditioner. While daily housekeeping is thorough, there are signs of aging and lack of maintenance. The staff are polite and punctual, but there is nothing particularly hospitable about them. You have to carry your suitcase to your room yourself, and they don't bring coffee or tea at breakfast.
The breakfast menu was the same every day, but it was very delicious. The room amenities and the tea corner in the breakfast area were from Ronnefeldt, which was a great addition. As this is a classic hotel, the facilities are not up to par for a five-star hotel, but it is a fine hotel representing Frankfurt and the building and breakfast are excellent.
