Hotel Boutique Calas de Alicante in Alicante

If you need to sleep beyond 6 am don’t choose this Hotel, the staff start extremely noise cleaning and/or renovation work on the hallways at this time. The rooms are in no way sound proof so all sounds from roads, staff and other guests go straight through.
Rooms are nice & clean, nice new bathrooms, and there is water, coffee & minibar. The staff at check-in was very friendly.

This review is about how Hotel Boutique Calas de Alicante treated us after relocating us to another hotel.

We were supposed to spend 4 nights in this hotel. On the day before our arrival we were informed that due to technical issues, we were relocated to another hotel "with the same level of comfort and service". We understand that unexpected things can happen, however when arriving in the other hotel we noticed that the star rating was lower (3 star hotel versus 4 star) and the hotel was a big impersonal building (with a noisy cafetaria experience for breakfast) instead of the boutique hotel we carefully selected. In one of the rooms, the airco was not working and in both rooms there was mold. Complimenary cava was nowhere to be seen (this was a minor issue, but since the promise of same level of comfort and service, I want to add this).

The next day we drove to hotel Boutique Calas de Alicante to complain about the circumstances, since relocation should always be to a better or at least equal hotel, which was not the case. At that time, the manager promised a partial refund to make up for the bad experience in the other hotel. He confirmed this in written, and even though we were not happy with the hotel we stayed in, we accepted the offer and made the best of it.

We are now 3 weeks later and after following up on the refund that we did not yet receive, the director of the hotel mailed us to inform us that a refund would not be granted "as the agreed service was fulfilled and even enhanced in certain aspects".

So to conclude: hotel Boutique Calas de Alicante failed to turn a bad customer experience into a good one, and made it even worse in the end.

Very busy / noisy road. Motorbike coming in & out of the flats opposite our balcony was ridiculously loud. Bus ride to beach because the sea that can be seen 2 blocks away has no beach. Bed not big enough, not enough shelves or hangers for storage. Had a birthday and wedding whilst we were there that made accessing the bar or sitting at a table outside difficult. In fact the wedding took over the whole hotel. Breakfast had a good and varied choice, coffee lovely but evening meals were a disappointment. ALL staff lovely helpful and happy but especially heads up to Dieago behind the bar
