Hotel Leuka in Alicante

When we first arrived, the staff were really friendly and welcoming, which gave us hope for a nice stay. Sadly, things went downhill very quickly.

As soon as we got into our room, we noticed black hairs all over the bed—in multiple spots—and more in the bathroom sink. Clearly, the room hadn’t been cleaned properly. The balcony view was just of a plain building wall, and there were no chairs to sit on. Not exactly the relaxing holiday vibe we were hoping for.

We reported the issues to reception and were moved to another room. While the bathroom looked a little cleaner, there were still hairs on the bed, and the air conditioning couldn’t be turned off—only turned down slightly—making it hard to sleep. I ended up coming back to England feeling really unwell, and I honestly believe the poor room conditions played a role.

The bed sheets had stains and holes, and the door had clearly been punched at some point—badly covered by a poster explaining what to do in case of a fire. The bathrooms looked nothing like the photos on the hotel’s website. In the pictures, the bathrooms have sleek white tiles and grey flooring. In reality, both rooms had outdated white-and-pink tiles with a green floor—totally misleading.

The walls were also incredibly thin. You could hear everything from the room next door and the hallway—there was no sense of privacy. On the balcony, the divider between rooms was so see-through, it didn’t even feel like you had your own space.

There were no plugs near the beds, so we couldn’t charge our phones conveniently at night. The only available socket was a small extension cord by the desk across the room. Overall, the entire hotel gave off strong 1950s vibes,dated, worn out, and in serious need of refurbishment.

The only real positive was the location, it’s close to everything. But unfortunately, that doesn’t make up for the poor hygiene, misleading advertising, and uncomfortable stay. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel to anyone.

This hotel is a great choice if you:
1) are reading Nietzsche
2) want to cosplay a KGB agent
3) need to put yourself in the appropriate mindset for that post-apocalyptic novel you've been writing.
This hotel is a bad choice if you:
1) want to sleep
2) want your stuff to smell roughly as good as when you entered
3) want to retain a shred of cheerfulness in your life.
I've traveled a lot, including many hostels. This place is delicious in its despair and decrepitude. The staff are very nice, but there is no amount of customer service that can make up for the total lack of soundproofing (inconvenient as it also seems popular with the stag party types) and the stale cigarette smoke that has so permeated the walls that you can practically smell the 1970's from your room.
