But a hat was stolen after my room was cleaned!
Im sure I left it on my carry on cuz I was all packed and kept it to wear it later that day!
I'm surprised that this dump has received so many 4-star reviews, frankly. The building is old and has not been kept up. They have suffocating diffusers in every room and the lobby. Makes me wonder what smell they're trying to hide...mildew, maybe?? If you're sensitive to smells, sleep outdoors... it's probably cleaner and more comfortable anyway!
The rooms are painted a hideous orange. The beds are singles pushed together sporting uncomfortable foam mattresses. You have no control over the room temperature. The lampshades and curtains look older than the building. The bathroom door needs a coat of paint and is chipped. Overall, the cleanliness does not rate 4 stars.
The lobby is dark and dingy and is suffocating with a huge scent diffuser. The staff are friendly enough, but not efficient.
We requested a double room with 2 beds. We were assigned a room with 2 single beds pushed together and a bathroom door that wouldn't close. Despite our request to move to another room with 2 separate beds and a bathroom with privacy, we were told someone would come to check our door and separate the beds. As a homeowner and landlord for more than 30 years, I knew what the problem was... The lock was not aligned with the plate. Luigi comes to look at the door. He opens and closes it repeatedly, but it doesn't stay closed. Huh, imagine that. He leaves and returns with a screwdriver and loosens some screws. That doesn't work either. Go figure! I would have offered the solution, but his English wasn't very good and I was mildly entertained by the circus. Again, we request another room, but he has to talk to someone again. We wait for a while and return to the desk and TOLD THEM we wanted another room. Finally, after 90 minutes, they switched our room.
While the bathroom door worked on the 2nd room, it was just as dirty as the first one.
A palace, this is NOT. Choose a different place to stay while in this magnificent city!
The staff was really nice. The man at the breakfast makes the best cappuccino and was always very kind. The breakfast was very good as well, form 7 till 10. But one time we where there at 9 and a lot of stuff was already gone, and the food was no longer replenished. That was a bit disappointing.
The place of the hotel is good, its like 10 min. walk to the city center. And there is a tram line in the making. In the neighborhood there are a lot of cafés, bars and restaurants to visit! While you stay at the hotel don't forget to visit the park close by, it's a nice visit and 5 min walk.
A highlight of our trip and our stay was renting a Vespa, what you can do at the hotel for a good price! We'd definitely come back when we're in Florence.
