Gambrinus Hotel

Check in was a breeze. Rooms are small but well equipped with a safe fridge iron hair dryer plus large bodywash toiletries. Beds are so comfy. TV a bit low but not in Rome for the tele. All kept very clean. The buffet breakfast small but sufficient, choices of drinks coffees juices, yoghurt fruit and pastries plus scrambled egg and boiled egg, cooked ham cheese plus more. Raul the breakfast person is so cheery and such a delight, a treasure for the hotel and best member of staff, deserves a raise. All staff were helpful. I would stay here again.i will add its worth the breakfast option even if you just want a few coffees. You also get 1 bottle of water each for your first day then the supermarket is a few doors down if you have not found your fountains to refill. We were in room 418 only slight thing was the material on the wall was different under the table and a few sockets around the hotel look too need fixing better to the walls. Showers are amazing though.

Clean, quiet room. Small but expected in Europe. Bed was comfortable AC fan noisy Bed and clothes felt damp if exposed. No place foe all the luggage. Breakfast was good - good selection of scrambled eggs, cold cuts and cheese, cereals, pastries. Juice and coffee. Serving crew was fantastic. Ruel is very happy, always asking if we needed anything. Fabmzia was great also. If in Rome again, would not have a problem staying here.

Pro: Clean, decent sized rooms with expected facilities. Good breakfast Con: Tiny common area, varied levels of staff service, glacial check-in. Long way out of town and a good walk to metro 1 side on busy sidestreet active to midnight and beyond. So-So; Restos, bars and facilities but limited.

The Gambrinus hotel is a well located hotel with well priced and comfortable accommodation. There are two bus stops near the hotel, a Pam local shop and pharmacy within a minute walk. The staff are helpful and friendly.

A note about the breakfast: Other reviews complain about the breakfast but it was fine. There is a standard spread of cereals, pastries and drinks. There are also a range of meats, cheese and some hot meals as well (all though the hot meals and not particularly great). You do need to ask the staff for coffee. The breakfast is a 6/10 overall.

The only downsides to the single rooms we stayed in were as follows:

1) the noise. As the hotel is located on via piave, which is a main road, it can be noisy. I bought earplugs from the local pharmacy to counter this but it is something to consider.

2) the shower. The shower in the rooms can have an awkward door placement, I can imagine that if you are a larger individual that you would not be able to fit into it, I would recommend getting a double room instead.

Have to commend breakfast server Ruel. So friendly and efficient. I would return to hotel because of Ruel. Staff very helpful generally and friendly. Lift at hotel needs proper servicing. On two occasions door on ground floor prevented exit.

Great location, very safe area and 7min walk away from metro station Repubblica or Castro Pretorio.
rooms very comfortable and with all basics. Varied breakfast for both continental and hot breakfast choices.

Beautiful old hotel with fabric wall coverings and matching drapes. The hotel staff was friendly and allowed us to store our luggage before check-in and after check-in so that we could sightsee without worrying about them. The coffeemaker in 421 was out of order though.
