Reviews
The location was excellent and had the tourist locations within walking distance (10-20mins).
This is listed as a 4-star hotel and I think that’s totally fair. Long story short, we’d recommend this as a good choice for budget-conscious travelers looking for some added comfort.
Here’s what was great about it:
- The front desk staff were awesome. They were able to stash our room key for us all day so we didn’t have to cart it around. They could also change large bills to smaller denominations and called us a cab to take us back to the airport.
- Our room’s air conditioning worked really well. It was 32 degrees Celsius during our trip so we really got to test the comfort of the room in the evening. It was great.
- Our room was serviced daily and supplies were replenished as needed.
- The hairdryer worked well.
- The free breakfast in the lobby served our needs well. It’s open from 7am-10am and serves scrambled eggs, buns, cheese and meats, tomatoes, watermelon, grapes, yogurt, cereal with milk, and a variety of pastries. You can also choose water, juice or coffee. We never had to wait for a table and we were in and out in 15 minutes.
- The rooftop patio was gorgeous. You can see the Colosseum, St. Peter’s Basilica, Vittoriano monument and more. It’s a great spot to eat a take-out pizza and watch the sunset.
- The WiFi worked reliably in our room.
- The location is pretty central to the major sites. You can walk to the Trevi Fountain in 6 minutes, Pantheon in 8 minutes, Spanish Steps in 15 minutes and the Colosseum in 20 minutes.
- It’s decently close to surface transit options, including bus and street car (train).
And here’s what we’d flag for the hotel and/other travelers to be aware of:
- The elevators are *very* small and run slowly. There’s room for two people comfortably but three is a squeeze. It’s a solo ride for one person with their luggage.
- Our room had some water stains on the ceiling in the bathroom. I could hear a steady drip overhead but I couldn’t feel any moisture and the stain didn’t grow.
- The shower in our room had a cracked shower pan.
- There are no blackout blinds. Pack an eye mask if you need perfect darkness to sleep, and if ambient sounds disturb you, bring ear plugs.
- The beds are very hard. I ended up pulling two spare blankets out of the armoire and folding them beneath me to add a little more padding. I slept significantly better after making that change.
- The mini fridge in our room didn’t close so we didn’t use it during our visit. I would have liked to use it to stash some treats, but it was barely cold and wasn’t food safe.
- The scrambled eggs in the breakfast buffet are very soft—much more so than most of us are used to. They could be cooked a little longer to be closer to North American cuisine but we still appreciated having the egg option and I ate them every morning.
- You will only get soap and shampoo in the room—no body wash or conditioner. Plan accordingly.
- The hotel can’t change this part, but it’s something for other travelers to be aware of. There aren’t a lot of great restaurant options in the immediate vicinity. The next time we visit Rome, I will look for a hotel that’s further west, closer to the Tiber. Piazza Navona or Trastevere would be great spots to try, which would both offer fantastic restaurant options and a livelier scene closer to home.
- The hotel is not close to any metro stations and is 1.7KM from Termini so (for convenience) you’d likely want to take a cab from the airport rather than the Leonardo Express.
Long story short, this hotel served our purpose well and was the most cost-effective option during our trip. My friend waited to book and ended up in a hostel, so we counted ourselves really lucky to have this space to come home to after a long day and 25,000+ steps.
The location of the hotel is also very good, close to Piazza Venezia, and the main attractions in Rome are within walking distance. It's not far from the train station, so I didn't take the bus or subway at all during the few days in Rome, and walked 30,000 steps every day.
The hotel is relatively old, and the facilities and sanitary conditions are average. The elevator can only accommodate two people. It is probably the smallest elevator I have ever seen! The room faces the street and is not very soundproof. The noise from passing vehicles is quite loud.
