Hotel Mastino

Good location in the centre of Verona and minutes away from the main squares. Rooms are little run down in some areas and Aircon struggled to keep the temperature down even though it wasn't particularly hot outside. Fine for a short stay and decent value for money.

If your looking for a hotel with a great location this might work for you. However, we did not stay at the actual hotel but the apartments complex near by. If you like a motel 6 vibe… you are in the right place. The whole apartment needs to be updated. The tv is like a 18 in computer monitor, the couch was lumpy as hell and the a/c worked sometimes. The little kitchenette was super outdated and the twin beds that made into a king felt like a Grand Canyon between the two. The hotel itself was nice and the people friendly, however, I would not use the Apartment complex until they modernized it. Yet, the location was great and this might be the reason they don’t. Say in the hotel, but not the Apartments.

Excellent Location, near Arena. Rates are very affordable and breakfast was amazing. I booked the economy room because I was only staying 2 nights and it was a mistake, Im not sure if other rooms are better but this one had uncomfortable bed and pillows but the noise was the worst. My room was on the street side above the mcdonalds. People are working and hanging out outside unil 3am or so, it was very loud (not the hotel's fault). This is still a great low budget option for travelers, I would at least ask for a room not on the street side and maybe upgrade the room.

Great Location, Good Breakfast, Clean rooms. Warm temperature in the room, we had to sleep with the window open to get some fresh hair. Expensive minibar 3€ for one soft drink. At the check out the reception tried to rob us of the taxi pricing by quoting €15 more to get to the airport. I hope the owner will get this sorted and have a chat with his front office team. It's a shame as the entire experience was good except by the customer service at the check out time 😮‍💨

On the plus side
Ideally located near to the main city attractions.
The staff in general were professional and courteous.
The breakfast was exceptional and above average.
The city streets were exceptionally clean and well cared for by the council.
The general public were on the whole well behaved and polite.
There was some evidence of beggars, Romney and street vendors who were easy to discourage and on the whole not much of a problem.

On the negative side.
We arrived on the weekend and the weekend staff are friendly but unfortunately I overheard one of the girls on the front desk discussion a guest in a rather disparaging way which disappointed me. I speak very little Italian but I did understand her enough to see that this may not be a suitable place for her to work. If you do not like people or feel that providing customers service is beneath you the work somewhere else.
