The Westin Grand Munich

The hotel is dated. This is not what you would expect at this level/price, I had visited a friend of mine and she was given a room that smelled like smoke and was poorly cleaned.

The only good points are: location and ease of finding transportation. Other than that, this was new in the 80s or 90s and needs refurbishment.

No working AC and I finally got a hotel staff person to admit their AC is antiquated and simply pushes air with a lot of dust around the room. The hotel is old as are their rooms. Germans loathe AC of any kind so they will not put it in their hotels and restaurants. Since global warming means longer hotter days this mean a you will have to suffer along with it.
Close to this hotel was a new Best Western and it is now very popular with North American guests because it has working AC.

Not our first stay at this hotel.

So far we have appreciated

- relatively reasonable price
- the Executive Lounge
- the breakfast

This time we had a bit of bad luck with our room. We had to move twice and look at several rooms before we found one in which the air conditioning at least worked to some extent. The hotel apparently had a general problem with the air conditioning that day. Unfortunately, the staff were only partially helpful. There was also no corresponding apology (e.g. a little something in the room) as in other hotels in such cases.

The breakfast was also good this time. However, the service was poor on 2 out of 3 days. On the other day it was very good. Different staff -> different service. We also found it very strange that tables were reserved for certain guests in the breakfast restaurant. These were given much more attention by the staff (primarily by the restaurant managers) than the other guests. A great pity.

Apart from that, we stick to our guns. The hotel itself is ideal for our purposes. However, it still had clear potential during this stay.
